How to beat 4-1-4-1 ?

I have a important cup match and my opponent is using 4-1-4-1 .
I really never had much luck against this formation In the past
Counter formation and tactics would be great

What did you use before?

I believe it was 3-5-2 v style
And 4-5-1 V-style as I was trying to keep up with his midfield

Four defenders
Two DMCs
AML, AMC, AMR
One striker

One opponent almost beat me with a 4-2-3-1 designed to counter my 4-1-4-1 last season. I had to take out my DMC and add another MC in the middle of a 4-5-1 to upend him. His two DMCs were troublesome until I made the tactical change.
