The other player placed a bid in the last few seconds of that round, qualified him for the next round. You didn't bid in this round, and where not qualified for the next round so you losed the player.

When playing on your phone you should keep in mind that there can be a delay before your actions reach the server and the server reach your phone.

My advice: Always bid if no one is bidding in that round. It makes sure you go to the next round.
