Havent installed iOS8 yet but that's how it works on iOS 7
Settings-> Notificaion Center ( Endable Notification view & Reminders)->Include TopEleven & Endable "Show in notification Center, Show on Lock Screen & Sounds) You may also set up the alert style, show be Banner or Alert.. If you set it to None you won't be able to see the notifications.
