so i just finished league and ended up in 8th place but i lost one star from all players. i didn't level up since i am in 8th place so why did i lose stars?

Unfortunately, you level up.
Sometimes this can happen with the 8th position - to complete a higher lv league.
To confirm this, check the 5* players you can buy from the market.
Aren't they 1* (and 5 points quality) higher than yours ?
