I ran this formation last season:
aml amc amr
mc mc mc
dl dc dc dr
I figured out it was illegal when my opponent of far less quality was leading possession 80/20, so i threw a striker in there real quick and won.

Same formation, no penalty.

Maybe Benlee4u is correct.
Attachment 1313
Something is definitely screwy...
EDIT:
After filing a bug report, I looked a little closer.
His keeper, O. Badda is a ST
Kemi, can you check the actual position of the player who was at GK in that game?
I'd like to use a formation that most teams (club and country), used for over fifty years until the mid 1970's, but this game deems it to be an illegal formation. It was 2-3-2-2-1. there were Left Back & Right Back (DL & DR), Left Half, Centre Half & Right Half (DML, DMC & DMR). Inside Left & Inside Right, (MC & MC), Left Wing & Right Wing (AML & AMR), Centre Forward (ST).
But it is illegal because there are only 2 defenders.
Kemi, can you check the actual position of the player who was at GK in that game?
Now that i can do some testing again, I set up with a 3-5-1-1 to test the midfielder/opposite field requirements some more
Attachment 1706
I'll do some more testing over the next couple days, but this seems to confirm the requirement of at least 4 players on the opponents side of the pitch.
Need testing: (with flankers)
3-3-1-0-3
3-3-0-1-3
5-1-1-0-3
5-1-0-1-3
::bump::
Sticky!!
Question
5-3N-1-1 is this legal or illegal formation?
Attachment 2732
Just to add to the data.... 2 games from earlier in the season.... opponent played AMC as GK in each game....
Doesn't seem to have engaged -30% penalty....
Theoretical Legal Formation Requirements:
Goalkeeper (Must be player's natural position) <---- Don't think so... see earlier screenies
Some combination of at least 3 defenders (i.e. 3 players anywhere in the back row )
At least 1, but no more than 2, players on EACH outside flank. {the D(L/R), DM(L/R), M(L/R), AM(L/R) slots} <--- watched this happen in-game.... I'd say verified true!
at least 3 midfielders (DM*, M*, AM*) at least one of which has to be in the middle row (MC, ML or MR) *This rule isn't totally confirmed
At least 4 players on the opponents side of the pitch. *This rule isn't totally confirmed <--- I have personally suffered under this rule for 28 painful game minutes while trying to play ultra-defensive!
at least 1 Striker
Just by way of updating and/or adding to the discussion.... :D
i often play a 4-5-1V but since i have no players on my team that can play naturally as AMR and AML, i use my MR and ML in those AMR/AML positions. I thus have two players out of position. I have had no problems with that.
I have also had a right back injured once so i used a centreback on the right --> 3 players out of position.
I had no problems whatsoever and it was like normal for me possession wise
btw, it's not illegal to use a DMR and a DR right? as long as I have no MR or AMR it shut be legal, right?
what is this? I can't see her formation or she's playing with only 6 player?
Attachment 3388
First of all thanks for the answers. therefore can I easily defeat her?
Thanks ;)
Here's an illegal formation, yet it seems to meet all the requirements:
--- ST --- ST ---
------ AC -------
ML -- MC --- MR
------ -- -- DMR
DL -- DC --- DR
I know you was just testing, but what kind of manager would play with a formation like that?
Just use your common sense and football knowledge and you won't have any problems setting up the formations
HAHA, I am trying to think how a real life team would play with that kind of formation. :)
all other things listed makes sense to me. (a team either plays with DR/DMR or MR/AMR if any)
I didn't write the first bit, it was written some way ago..
I just mentioned that it does not make sense to play with that kind of formation, just use your common sense and you won't have any trouble setting the formation.
I want to know if my formation it's illegal or no ?
Attachment 3432
I think it's legal, but very odd.
is this one legal ?
Attachment 3449
what about using two DM next to each other?
or using to AMC next to each other behind two strikers?
I was hoping to run with
DC. DC.
DMR. DML
MC MC MC
AMR. AML.
FC
So I'm guessing it's illegal due to the two DC's ? That's lame
how about that its illegal or not?

Legal. :)
