Had lots of conflicting advice!!!!

Here's the guys formation:

I have checked the formation guide thread and it suggests 442 Classic. I have also been told 442 diamond.

I was thinking 4-1-2-1-2 as the AMC will get in the gap between the mid and def however it does leave the wings exposed. Or a 4-2-3-1(N) or 4-2-2-2(N) again wings exposed but the 2 DMC can track the runs of his midfield and hope my fullbacks are capable against his wide players. All my players are 5 star but my best players are: two 6* ST's, two 6* MC's and 6* GK.

Help would be appreciated or even thoughts on the system. The guy I'm coming up against hasn't lost a game yet but he is weaker overall than me. Champions League Semi BTW.

Note: His DR is the weakest player and slow and weak (21 & 21) his AMR & AML aren't particularly fast either (equal or slower than my fullbacks)

I was going to recommend 4-1-4-1 so you have a strong midfield and enough players to stop his AML - AMC - AMR - ST configuration...

I just beat a guy with that formation playing away. Played my usual 413N2 normal counter attack. Won 0-3 away. My two defensive minded MC on his CM and my attack minded MC in the mid. I had my DMC with blue arrow back.

Thing is with one upfront, he doesn't get many chances so counter attack is safer to use.

I guess you can go 41212 instead. I think 4132 is more solid than 41212. Your MC do his bit to win the midfield battle and if he gets the ball would get a free run like if you played 41212. I can never see why to play an AMC is better than a MC mid... well unless you play both.

Thanks for the advice, I usually play 4-1-3N-2 but I've had trouble against formations where they use a lot of attacking players.

Ill probably go with the 4-1-3N-2, with the 2 defensive minded MC's and the one attacking one like you suggested. What arrows do you have on the full backs? Match is tomorrow evening so ill let you know how it goes

No arrows on fullbacks usually against wingers. With 4132 the fullbacks are needed to provide width, why I train them with equal ratings. If they have no wingers (aml amr mr ml) then red arrows. I once did blue arrows on full backs when they have much stronger aml amr and dl and dr then mine whilst I had stronger mid then him. Even then I was playing at home and can afford my full backs not providing attacking threat.

Against offence formation, force counter attack is v good way to win against it. The only thing is you do need to have a strong def to play that. My best players were my defenders until recently. (My strikers suxed balls and cant hit the barn door in the first two season so I splashed out on the most expensive striker on the market.)

Okay thanks for the advice, my defence is pretty strong I've only conceded about 10 goals all season (most against attacking formations similar to this).
My strikers seem to be on and off, they score a hat trick in both games one day and then nothing the day after (full stamina bar on both).
I've never really tried the force counter attack option because I was unsure whether it limits my shots or not?

I'm away from home the first leg so I want to build up a bit of a lead or just grab some away goals to lower the pressure at home, without conceding too many.
