Defensive or aggressive are only a matter of the manager's preferences. Your question is like asking people to choose between coca cola or pepsi. mou or pep. In the end, you might get even more confuse if the entire forum member decide to answer.

As for me I'd rather go defensive and counter attack through the middle since 4-4-2 is a little bit weak of middle attack.
