Tricky one: how to counter 4-1(DMC)-2(ML/MR)-2(AMC)-1

I have an opponent who is playing with the following formation:

    4-1(DMC)-2(ML/MR)-2(AMC)-1

I cannot find his formation in the table, but I do see something similar:

5-2ML/MR-2AMC-1 (only difference is 5 at the back instead of 4+DMC). The table lists 4-2-2-2 Hexagon as a good counter formation, do you guys think I could also use it for the initial formation mentioned above?

    you could try:
    5-1-3w-1
    4-2-3w-1

I just noticed that my opponent's formation does not have any MC! Wow, surely there is a way to punish such a formation?

Also, since my oppenent's 4-1-2(ML/MR)-2(AMC)-1 formation is very similar to 4-3W-2AMC-1 Xmas Tree...

... where a 4-5-1 formation is recommended, then wouldn't the lack of MC in my opponents lineup (DMC there instead) mean that I could go for 4-4-2?

Or do I need to look at total midfielders overall, so if my opponent has 5 (incl. DMC and AMC) then I should also have 5?

I ended up going with the following formation:

    3(N)-1-3-(N)-2(AML/AMR)-1

Since he had no MCs and only ML and MR I decided to flood the middle with 3xMC and move my wingers forward, so AML & AMR.

Worked brilliantly as I beat a stronger opponent in the Champions League Final 3:1.

4-1-3N-2. Passing through the middle. Short passes
