for the 1st one use both flanks, wing backs arent as defensive as side backs. for the 2nd one use a CDM to nullify the CAM. that was my default formation (4-5-1 W as i call it) and i never have any luck when facing the V
For the first, i suggest you 4-3-3. Attack from the middle with mixed passing.
And the second one, try to use 4-4-2c. Defensive, attack from both flanks with long passing + counter attack. Or 4-5-1v should do ok.
For the first one.. just follow the senior advices up there!
For the second one... I have just finish the match against that formation.
First half: I used 4-2DMC-1MC-2AML/R-1, he get more possession and the score was 2-2.
Second half: I changed to 4-2DMC-2ML/R-2ST, my possession a little bit increased and my 2ST scored 2 goals by assisting each other.
