    I think it can working against the 4-4-2. I've had success with the 4-5-1 V with seems similar to me. These are the orders I like to use in this matchup.

    Normal/Attacking mentality, mixed, whole pitch, hard tackling, mixed, zonal, no counter, no offside. Red arrows on ML/MC/MC/MR. Blue arrow on middle MC.

    My theory is assuming the 4-4-2 is attacking the flanks, I gamble my ML/MR and his ML/MR negate each other. Regarding the MC's, I figure I have one MC/DMC to protect in case his come forward while my two are left virtually unguarded in his midfield or if his MC's have blue arrows mine with red arrows and a MC(down)/DMC to protect against a counter-attack is probably an advantage to me.
