Because if you lose a DL/DR you no longer have at least one player on each wing which is illegal.

It depends if you mean 4-3N-3 or 4-3W-3.

But then if your only MC gets a red it becomes illegal, doesn't it? Isn't there a rule that if you play only 2 midfielders they better be MCs?
    4-1(DMC)-3W-2 could work.

Yes it is better if you have 2 midfielders they better be MCs... But even in 4-3N-3 and 4-3W-3 there are 3 Mcs so there is no danger in illegal formation unless you mean 4-2-1-2-1

I will try to beat you with 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow Diamond Formation

    4-3W-3 doesn't have 3 MCs...

If in 4-3W-3 your MC gets a red you're left with 2 midfielders and they are not MCs. That's bad.
