You could always just take over a lower level club. If you do this I suggest playing with your current club for awhile and stock up on tokens and booster packs, because they stay with you

Try to play some friendly games. With new players, the players normally need some time to form a team

This happened to me the last season... Sometimes this games just dont have logic... Try to change, play defensive with counter attacks even if you have the best team... Thats how i trick the game the last season... I was 8/9 at the middle of the season and i finished second... with this changes. Hope it can help you ;)
