Not sure short passing is better with a flat formation, especially with 3 in midfield.
Arrows are confusing but I what I have noticed is anyone with red arrows pushes forward, leaving their natural position to press on they also have a few shots.
I experimented with 4-5-1v defensive with red arrows on DR, right sided MC and AML. I witnessed some beautiful runs and long shots from my fullback. I think it gives them more incentive to attack but could be risky. Blue arrows will concentrate on covering more of the pitch defensively, they won't venture to far up the pitch and more likely to keep things simple, make tackles, be aggressive and make simple chances.
Just my opinion.
