it's not necessary to play counter with long pass. I use many times (if oppo has close lines) also mix pass.
It gives you few more shots on game.

Yes but even short passes you can notice that players want to pass the ball fast to make a counter attack and that can result in losing ball

I dn't prefer counter if the opponent is stronger than mine especially at the beg. of the match but maybe turn it on later
