Need your analysis for: 4-1-4-1 & 4-4-2 & 3(N/W)-1-4-2

Hi guys, new season is here, everyone is preparing there teams!
I've prepared my team as best as I can:

• 12 strong 6* players
• Primary formation: 4-1-4-1
• Secondary formations: 4-4-2 or 3(N/W)-1-4-2
• Weakness: don't have any of AMC/L/R

I haven't used 4-1-4-1 before - can you guys help me to understand how this formation is working? Also the same question with 4-4-2?

Regarding 4-1-4-1, when should I use:

• Defensive / Normal / Attacking mentality?
• Through middle / Both flanks / Mixed?
• Short / Mixed / Long passes?
• Force counters ON / OFF?
• Pressing Low / High?
• Tackling Normal / Hard?
• Zonal / Man marking?
• Offside trap ON / OFF?
• Also when and how should I use arrow commands on players?

Thanks! Can you add some comments when should I use those settings?

Also, why low pressing? If, i'm loosing, should I use high pressing and still use counter attacks?

Low pressing because of counter attack. You let the opponent come to your area, once your players get the ball your players quickly attack while he is regruping.
Hard pressing only for emergency because your players will lose a lot of stamina

While using 4-1-4-1 against strong and same level opponents use defensive or very defensive mentality with counter attacks and put defensive arrow on dmc and dc.
Against weaker opponents use normal mentality(but be careful weaker team surprises a lot).

Ps: if striker don't perform well put defensive arrow on him. He will support the midfield and get better grades

Thanks guys for your ideas!!! I'm still getting used to this 4-1-4-1 tactics... It's very strange - I cound't win two times agains much weaker teams (-35%), but won couple times 5-1, 4-0 against similar quality teams..

the idea behind low pressing and forcing counters against a 4141 is to draw their players out of their defensive half, if you press an equal side playing 4141 with bad orders the entire match, you will lose condition too fast and you are likely to concede goals late.

Another question regarding 442 and 4141 - when should I use passing style - through middle or both flanks or mixed ?

It is quite obvious that if opponent does not have DL/DR - I should go with both flanks tactics. But what if opponent have DL/R and have strong middle? Also how with you go with 4141 against 3W defenders?
