How to counter this 4-1-3W-2
Screenshot by Lightshot
Ok,so in 4-1-3w-2 there is a DMC.hence it is useless to play an AMC.he has a back four.to give his defense a challenge ,u have to play at least 2 strikers up front.he has a wide three midfield with only one central midfielder.this is his main weakness.as he has only one player in central midfield,it will be tough for him to maintain possession if u play a midfield strong formation.he has wingers and 2 strikers, hence,u have to play with a back 4.
The obvious solution here is playing a formation like 4-4-2 which has
1)a back four to defend against his wingers and strikers
2)more midfielders than him in central midfield(2 vs 1)
3)absence of AMC so as to avoid his DMC
4)two strikers up front who will be supplied by the midfielders.
I would prefer going thru the middle ,but suppose opposition DMC is stopping all ur central attacks(unlikely),the special thing about 4-4-2 is that it allows u to play down the flanks.hence,it gives u two options.
Another option is the 4-3n-2w-1 formation.why?
1)it does not have AMC.hence u will avoid his DMC
2)u will have three midfielders vs his one midfielder in central midfield
3)ur wingers can easily terrorize his back four from advanced positions especially during counters.
4)u will have a back 4 to stop his wingers and strikers.
Also like the 4-4-2 this formation also gives u the option of playing down the flanks along with thru the middle.
Btw give ur Facebook username
U can even play 4-2-2-2 if u feel that one striker up front won't perform well.this can be done by removing an MC and making him striker in 4-3n-2w-1 formation.the only difference when u do this is that u will have one player less in midfield making it ur 2 central midfielder vs his 1 central midfielder and that u will have good scoring opportunities with 2 strikers
how you play again 3-4-1-2 all 4 goals assisted by his ML [emoji35][emoji38]

Do u have a DMR who can play winger(who is good)
??????
Seangomes12 my man, what formation would you pick to counter 4-1-4-1 playing defensive counterattacks? His MR scores a goal every match.
I am thinking about 4-4-2 classic normal short pass or 3-2-2-2-1 butterfly offensive through wings. Both high press.
So basically u have 2 have a DMC in ur team to counter his AMC.he has two strikers+his wingers, therefore u need a back four to stop them.he has two midfielders in central midfield excluding wingers.his major weakness is that he has a back three which u can destroy with ur wingers as they play narrow.even if they play wide they will be destroyed as ur strikers will destroy his one DC.
The formation I would suggest would be 4-1-4-1 as
1)u will have back 4 to stop his wingers and strikers
2)u will have a DMC to counter his AMC
3)u will have 4 in central midfield to maintain possession.
4)u will have the option 2 go thru the middle and to also go down the flanks.i would prefer to go down the flanks with ur wingers.put red arrows on ur wide players.
Btw if ur better than him u can mirror his formation and play thru the middle or down the flanks.
Give me ur opinion and give me ur suggestions if u have any.
Also tell me which formation u used
North London red ,the previous post was for redmanc7.i will post urs now
Thanks, be advised I edited my post a bit, added my propositions ;)
basic description of 4-1-4-1:
1)has a back four(stable)
2)has a DMC to counter AMC
3)has a good number of midfielders to maintain formation
4)1 striker will coz few problems
The formation is quite balanced.i would suggest using formation like 4-4-2 or mirror his formation if ur better than him by playing down the flanks.4-3n-2w-1 is another option
Why 4-4-2
1)u will avoid his DMC
2)u will be able to play down the flanks so as to attack his full backs
3)u will have two central midfielders to match his 2 central midfielders.(excluding wingers)this means that u will be able to maintain possession.
4)u will have a back four to stop his wingers and striker
Why 4-3n-2w-1?
1)u will avoid his DMC
2)u will have three central midfielders versus his 2 midfielders.
3)u will have two wingers I pm advanced positions to attack his full backs.
4)u will have one striker who will be supported by ur wingers.
My preferences:
1)4-1-4-1 if ur better
2)4-4-2
3)4-3-2-1
In 4-4-2 u also have two strikers to coz problems for opposition defenders
His main weakness is down the flanks.ur wingers are gonna be the most important players in ur team
Put red arrow on ur right back to support the right winger.put blue arrow on ur left back to defend and pay more attention to his MR
Main options are 4-4-2 and 4-1-4-1(if ur better)
Only if nothing is working use 4-3-2–1 to be more attacking.im saying this is ur last resort as u may lose stability in central midfield
Thank you kindly, friend. I am much better so I think I'll go with 4-4-2. I don't need an DMC since there is no AMC in oppo. Two strikers is better.
Ok cool
Remember to go down the flanks
Keep it mixed passing with red arrows on ur wide players
i just lost 4-3 in cl to 3-4--1-2 using my usual 3-1-4-1-1 the opposition 2% better so well matched most of my team played crap i was 3-1 up lost 4-3 never thrown a lead like that away before
not sure what to do we had 60 odd % possession more shots blah blah have dropped most of the team the useless swines
did u play 3-5-2 flat mate?

Hi Sean...what do you suggest against 4-2n-2w-1-1? My opponents during match can put the AMC in MC, so there are 3 wide midfielder if things goes wrong.
In first match of CL I lost 1-2 away, I've played with a 3w-1-3n-2w-1; at the end of first half I was winning 1-0, but he has changed the AMC in MC and he scores 2 gol in the second half time.
The best solution I can give u is playing a 4-3n-2w-1.why?
1)playing back four is important.u made a mistake playing back three as ur full backs were isolated against his wingers.one major thing I noticed is that on many occasions he plays down the flanks.having back four will stop his strikers also
2)having three in central midfield is useful as u will have three central midfielders vs his 0.if he changes his formation and uses an MC than still u will have more number of players in central midfield.
3)u will be avoiding his 2 DMCs
4)main thing is that u will have advanced wingers to terrorize his back 4 as going down the flanks is ur only option to beat him as going thru the middle is not advisable as he has 2 DMCs
5)a good thing about this formation is that u can switch to 4-5-1 flat so as to maintain possession to keep the lead as even if u score and win by 1-0,u will win on away goals.
Btw he does not have a AMC like u said,he has 2 strikers.
i will surely support u in the next match.thats what friends do
Basically the main mistake u made is playing aDMC who is useless as opposition did not play AMC.instead u should have played back 4
North London red who I gave my advice to on the first page of the thread won against 3-4-1-2 by playing 3-5-2 v.i would suggest that u do the same.red many 7,give me ur Facebook username so I can support ur matches and give u advice
Thanks Sean...I'll try 4-3-2w-1 ... and about mentality, counter attack and pressing what you suggest? I can begin with attacking and switch to defensive during the match..
I would say attacking to be on the front foot.play high press and about counter attacks I feel don't play it as he can sometimes counter ur counter attacks.
During half time quickly come to the forum if u want some advice
The pressing high thing and also the fact that u can play attacking football without worry.playing high affects the most
I need 2-0 win in Cup match tonight.
My oppo use 3DC-DML DMC DMR-2MC-1AMC-1ST.
What formation should i use and arrow of direction??
So basically his formation is really packed in midfield.he has 2 central midfielders +AMC+DMC+all 3 defensive midfielders.if u look closely he has only three players attacking.according to me,his major weakness comes from the flank area where he is vulnerable.going thru the middle won't be a good idea as his midfield is packed.also, his back line is a NARROW back three making it easier to attack down the flanks.
U have to use a formation where u can easily attack down the wings without giving up possession in midfield.also,ur opponent has an AMC.hence,u have to counter him using DMC.
The main formations that come to mind are 4-1-4-1 and 4-5-1v.why use the formations?
1)they have s stable back four to defend against defensive counterattack a from opposition
2)they have a DMC to counter the opposition AMC
3)they have a strong midfield for maintains possession.
4)they allow u to attack down the flanks with zest.
I would suggest putting red arrows on ur wingers and full backs.play with attacking mentality with high press, mixed passing and down the flanks
