Played Narrow Diamond against 3-1-1-3-2 and won on Penalties

I played against this silly formation seen bellow. I played the 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow Diamond and I played at home. I had 100 percent rating while he had a 85 percent. I won on penalties. Why was it so close and what should I have played. Maybe a 4-5-1 V-Style OR a 4-3N-2W-1?
