Attacking and defending tactics

Ok so as the title suggests I wanted to start a thread on what tactics you should use if attacking or defending, obviously the gameplay in top eleven is varied from what actually happens in real life.
For attacking I go short passing to control possession, press high and play offside trap
For defence I use short passing, counter attack, hard tackling and man 2 man marking.
As I said though the game dynamics vary to real life so is long passing better for defensive play and does counter attack work when attacking? Any feedback and opinions appreciated
