this formation has given lots of headache this season. tried to counter with 4-1-2-2-1 V lost 3-2. tired 3w-1-4-2 was a goalless draw. any good counter formation and tactics to counter 4-3w-2w-1 ?

Do you mean this? If yes it isn't 4-3w-2w-1 but 4-3N-2w-1
I usually counter this with 3w-1-3-2w-1

I haven't seen someone using this formation. Try 4-4-2 or 4-4-2 narrow diamond [emoji184]

I have faced that formation past 2 seasons. Lost the first 2 times 2-1 2-1. After that I changed my formation to 4-2-2-1. 4 DEFENDERS (DL DC DC DR) 2 MC 2 AML AMR 1 ST. attacking mix or short passing to the middle no counter. High pressing, tackling normal/hard. Depends. Zonal and counter on. Well after that I won 7-1 then 3-1 3-1 2-1 to 3 different opponents. Or you can just go 4-1-4-1. With hard defending or defending long/ mix passing counter on. High pressing man-man normal/hard tackling and NO OFFSIDE. and yes your ML/MR need not go attacking but should be straight with central midfielders defensive/ normal mode. Not attacking. Than I am sure u can see some positive results.Quote:

Mid game if you are 1-0 down, go for the 4-2-3-1 formation attack. Short / mix passes. Offside on ,high pressing, tackling normal and counter off

Narrow diamond won't usually work.
The key to counter formations with 3 players on each side is to use formations with 2 players on each side and attack at least partly the middle.
this can be a defensive formation with dl/r and ml/r which counters through the middle, or an offensive formation with dl/r and aml/r which attacks mixed. In the second case this means that you should probably have also an amc, and probably press high.
I favor the first solution. 4-4-1-1, 4-3w-1-2 or 4-1-4-1 depending on opponent's strength would be my choice in this case.
