Players’ Arrows

What are the arrows showng in game tactics now? How can i benefit from them and what is their function?

I think they are just cosmetic, nevertheless they were made to define mentality of each player.
Up arrow offensive mentality, down arrow defensive mentality, no arrow default(normal) mentality.
