How to beat 5-3-2 wide

Just encountered this formation and didn't know how to counter it. I went 4-4-2, arrows up on the flanks and on my two strikers only.

Tactics went normal, down both flanks, own half, hard tackling, long passing, zonal marking. My team is rated 27.3 and my opponent 28.8. Problem is, I got tonked 5-1 and now I'm not sure where I went wrong in this game. Absolutely zero clue why I would lose so badly (its my first loss of the season) and I am currently sitting on top of the league, been handling much better sides with ease the whole season long, making sure I am online for games and adjusting tactics and planning accordingly. So can anyone tell me exactly what you think I did wrong and how I can counter this formation in the future?
