Playing games (official or friendlies) in the old version, your player is gaining progress no matter he's in rest. Only in training you have to set him in 2 or 3 bars to gain.

I have not figured how to max all bonuses, but I figured a 3-2-3-3 bonus with only about 7-7.5% burn and 8 players. There may be a bug because I get attack bonus (2-3 bars) just for chasing the lads...
