About shippingstorag
Biography:
International maritime transportation can be done via conventional cargo, bulk cargo or containerized cargo. Container shipping has been the precursor of the development of international trade since it has allowed the standardization and ease of intermodal transport in the transportation of exports and imports from any point to the most remote places on the planet. In this post we explain how container shipping is carried out and the different types of maritime containers that exist.

First of all, it is important to point out that when it comes to container shipping, there is the possibility of sending one or several units at the same time or even sending a proportional part through what we call international groupage. In international groupage there is not only one shipper, exporter or importer, but there are several companies that ship to one or several recipients without having anything in common.

Shipping sea containers
There are several types of sea containers that allow almost all types of goods to be transported by sea in a safe and secure manner. Each piece of equipment has certain characteristics that make it suitable for a specific type of goods.

The maximum load of a container may vary depending on the shipping company and the type of content. In addition, it is important to take into account the regulations in force in each country on maximum authorized weights of the complete equipment (container + platform + tractor) as far as the land transport part at origin and destination is concerned.

Types of maritime containers
With the passage of time, the typology of maritime containers has increased, so that each of them can cover a specific need when transporting goods in the most appropriate way.

The following are some of the most common and widely used types of maritime containers currently used to carry out transport operations.

Dry Van (Standard): these are the most common and widely used models, they are used for dry cargo and are available in different sizes.
There are several sizes, but the most used are the 20 feet and 40 feet. The only difference between the two containers is that the 20-foot container is 6 meters long while the 40-foot container is 12 meters long. There are other types of 40-foot containers that are about 10 centimeters higher and are called 40-foot High Cube containers. The maximum gross laden weight of these containers is approximately 22,000 kg for the 20' container, 27,000 kg for the 40' container and 29,000 kg for the 40' High Cube container.
