@Litey it depend from one player to an other, it can happen to be really young and grow kinda slowly is like with their quality they can be 6 stars and perform worst then a 5 stars :)

somehow you have right but some players you can use them like 5 stars for 2 :) because in first season they will grow to 6 stars and on next season you will have them 5 stars and still they will grow...

Not all players are growing same, like in real so yes you can call it "random" somehow. You can set hard training level if you want him to grow much faster but as well he will lose more condition :)
