Dunno, I've never had thousands.. for BvB I go through about 300 a season. Other teams it's either in game only or on a couple I watch vids for greens, adding maybe 30 something to the in game/gifts....

The first thing I thought when seeing the title of this thread was "Don't" unless you're desperate for that one player, for this season.
Players slow every star they gain, and also as they age.
