Faced this formation against much stronger opponent and won :D played 4-5-1 flat, long balls and counters. Had descend defenders and descent ST.

If Your opponent is not much stronger You can try...

I usually counter such offensive formations with counters/long balls and normal mentality. You need rock solid defensive line.

Yes!

Good DCs with blue, ML/R with red, counters, OT, long passing , through both flanks. It's risky, but remember I've trashed slightly better team with this counter.

4-5-1 V style is my favorite formation. Usually wins with narrow edge (V style has only one striker, but one of my wings is shadow striker).

4-4-2 , narrow diamond and 4-5-1 V style are the best options to chose.

Formation which brought me 2 league titles (lvl1,2) was :

Zonal, He'll play probably def. with counters, tackling normal, hard could bring You some cards, free throws to Your opponent, but You can risk, especially if You have good tackling players ... Btw...

Lost home or away? This one could be tricky ... He can move ST, MC, DMC through the game... And will play probably with def. mentality with counters. Cover his ML with Your MR, if Your MR is stronger...

With 3DCs-DMC-3MCs-AML/R-1ST conceded one, changed to 4-5-1 V style and scored one. Statistically outplayed him. We'll see today, still have active result.

Red arrow on DMC ;) Also could help red arrows on DML/R's, OT, CA, Def. mentality,... this defensive wings formation is not a good idea... 3MC's with AMC and 2 ST is an better option. Better opponent...

4-4-2; 3-1-3MCs-1-2, If Your opponent is much stronger 5-3MC's-1-2 (defensive, long balls, short passing).

With 3MCs narrow You'll have ball possesion; DL-DC-DR even with DMC are not the option. AMC-ST (middle) could do a good job. Counters by default, mixed passes. att/normal change in the game.
