I've seen most of the stuff and more than 3/4 is an existing black/white image pasted on the shirt. What happened to originality?

I guess it depends on what way the gradient is used... If its a subtle gradient to give the overall emblem more depth, then i wouldn't bother really.
But if the gradient is a pure colored-wise...

I dont know it yet, still need to make 2 entries :p
