Bidding and negative balance

I noticed what some guy did, let`s call him Bob. Bob had 2,2mil on his balance. Bob put bids on several players which were worth between 1,5mil and 2mil. Since he could buy each player individually, he was able to put bid on any player whose value was less then 2,2mil. What ended up happening was that he got several players and bank balance of -7,6mil in the end. I understand that what he did was within rules set. He could buy each player individually when he put his first bids, thus allowing him to keep biding on those players later even though he couldn’t pay them. Even him being in negative balance didn’t prevent him from biding, because he put his first bid when he had enough money to buy each player individually.

I find this to be very abusive, to be able to get players immediately and pay for them later. I know that if Bob has negative balance for a week that game will start selling his players to restore the balance, but Bob will probably sell just enough players or buy just enough tokens, just by the end of those 7 days with literally no penalties for being in debt during that period, while getting all of the benefits of the players he bought immediately. Here are couple of suggestions which I think could be set to prevent this:

1. Each time you place your first bid, same value of money should be deducted from your balance. With each new bid your balance should be decreased by the amount which is a difference between your current and your previous bid. You can go into negative balance during auction. If you lose the auction money equal to your last bid is returned to you.
Example:
Bob has 1mil on his balance. He puts a bid of 900k, therefore his balance is reduced by 900k to 100k. Auction keeps going and Bob`s bid keeps increasing, and his balance decreasing. Bob`s latest bid is 1,1mil and his balance is now -100k. Auction keeps going and Bob loses the auction. Bob`s last bid was worth 1,2mil which put his balance at -200k, however, since he lost the auction his balance is reset back to 1.200.000+(-200.000)=1.000.000, which is equal to his balance before the auction started.

2. If your balance is negative you can`t place bids, even if you have placed your first bid when you had enough money. This won`t prevent from buying players whose value is above your balance but it would at least prevent from buying players with negative balance.
Example:
Bob has 2mil and he wants to buy 3 players, each of them being worth 1,5mil. Bob puts a bid on each player since he can buy each player individually, even though he can`t pay all of them combined. Bob wins his first auction and his balance is reduced by 1,5mil setting his balance to 500k. Even though Bob has 500k he can still get the second player which is worth 1,5mil because he put his first bid when he had 2mil. Bob wins his second auction and his balance is set to -1mil. Since Bob now has negative balance, he can`t anymore bid for the third player even though he put his first bid when he had 2mil.


These two suggestions wouldn`t work together, they are individual of one another. They could maybe be combined in some way, but I think that it would complicate things further. I have few screenshots of this exploit to showcase what “Bob” did, I will post them if needed. I look forward to any suggestions, comments and discussions about suggestions listed or about the topic itself.

You are allowed to be in debt in football be it in games or in real life. You are also allowed loans. As long as you fix the debts or pay the loans in time, there should be no problem.

I understand what is your concern as last year (2015) I faced a user who was one level higher. He bought several 5 star players (which were 6 star players for my team level) at the start of the season and went in debt. His team knocked my team out of the cup early in the season, probably because he had a better squad for that period, and later he lost some of his players, and was knocked out of the cup in the later stages. Of course, I was annoyed because my team could have progressed farther had he not bought all those 6 star players.

But, this is part of the game. You can do it too if you want. There is nothing wrong in that. In fact, it can be used as a strategy.

So, I don't agree to your suggestions. This part of the system is already good enough and simple as it is, and going by your suggestions will make it more complicated.

You are right Tactician, clubs in real life do go in debt and they take loans and spend way more than they earn, but this is a game with no concept of loans or a bank from which you can take loans. You simply go into negative balance, who is club in debt to? How are clubs paying their players if there is no money? How do other clubs get their money from selling their own players if a person buying them is having a negative balance?

Anyone can do the same thing but to me it just feels like an exploit and something being used the way it was not supposed to be used.

I agree that first suggestion is a bit complex, but I dont see why it would complicate things too much to forbid to bid if you have a negative balance.

Maybe reduce time in which you can be in debt before the game starts selling your players? A week just feels too long.

Perhaps I am trying to make too much sense from a game.

The 'you have one week to settle your debts' can be said to be the loan. This system act as the bank and provide you the opportunity to buy several players when you are short on cash. You have 1 week to settle those debts. In fact, 1 week is very short because it is only 1/4 the duration of the season. In real life, clubs can stay in debt for more than 1-2 seasons. Also, in real life, when a club wants to buy the player, the club first bids (send a proposal sum of transfer money), but do not do any payment. The club can do as much as proposals like this as it wants. It is only when the transfer has been agreed and everything has been finalised that the club pays the other club.

Note that if a player already bade for a player and saw another player he wants to buy and the bidding time is ending soon, he won't have time to buy tokens and turn them to virtual cash. Also take into consideration, that once a player places a bid, he has no option to opt out. So, he might end up with unwanted players and also with a negative balance.

Agreed . In real life clubs are not supposed to buy a player and sell it in one season . But in the game , you could do the same thing in a very short time It looks just like borrow a player and then return it . It's not reasonable .
