Let's say that usually you logged into the game daily but for any reason you can't do it for a week, or let's say 10 days.... so the idea is that if you choose a contract longer than the period you've been inactive (let's keep the 10 days inactive) there's the option to choose the biweekly contract of 14 days, so you recive the amount for the last 10 days and the contract will last in 4.
