We can already see the standings of the top scorer/assister. Maybe at the end of the season the top scorer/assister can take as a reward some skill points or the team an amount of money.

I think it's a great idea. I also thought about it before cause just as you said the standings are there so why not award the top scorer or player with the most assists.
I hope in the future they add this extra bit in the game.
