A Final Mission
Matias Madrid was the toast of Lion's Way after he steered Go Leo into the Champions' League final.
The goalscoring winger scored a brace in a 2-1 win over Pong FC which meant that Go Leo go through on away goals with the aggregate tied at 4-4. Madrid had scored the all important second goal late in the first leg to keep the tie alive.
Things did not start on a good note for the home side when Pong FC took a 12th minute lead and a 4-2 advantage on aggregate. However, after Madrid dispatched a curling freekick in the 38th minute to tie the match, Go Leo took control of the tie.
After the break, Madrid was brought down in the box after making his way past a couple of defenders. The Argentian picked himself up and slotted home the penalty. 2-1 on the night and 4-4 on aggregate. The results shoud have gone beyond doubt but for some spectacular stops by the visiting goalkeeper.
At the final whistle, Lion's Way erupted to celebrate Go Leo's first appearance in a Champions' League final.
Go Leo however will not be able to contest a double this season after they slipped four points behind in the league with a 3-1 lost to Agon FC yesterday. With two matches remaining, the chances of Agon dropping points are slim and Go Leo will most likely have to settle for second.
However, with Champions' League glory in the horizons, no one will dare say that this was a dissapointing season.

Lion's la Bamba to victory
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4hiY8V88B2...gue+winner.jpg
Go Leo lifted the Champions League trophy today for the first time, scoring three times in the first half to beat Addy FC 3-1 in the final. Despite being tied 1-1 at one point, in reality, it was a procession-like final.
Addy was never really in the match and it was one way traffic the moment Matias Bamba, restored to the starting eleven for the final, connected with a Matias Madrid corner in the tenth minute. Go Leo then proceeded to break down Addy with two more goals after conceding an equalizer.
Jamie Campell restored their lead with a screamer in the 20th minute and Tim van Rooijen polished off the win with a header ten minutes later.
Addy simply never showed up for the final and mustered only 45% of the possesion and although they had six shots on target, none were able to worry Go Leo.
The Boss opted to give starts to Bamba and Campbell, two players who have been dropped in recent matches while the number one jersey was given to Eladio de Spiegeleer. Previous first choice Ayila Fortunate paid the price for recent blunders in high-profile matches.
While Bamba was named as Man of the Match, star winger and captain Madrid was the catalyst for the win and provided two assist to help his club add the Champions' League title to their trophy cabinet.
The Boss claims that Madrid deserves all the plaudits, "Matias has been sensational since he came to the club. I think it is appropriate that he was the one who delivered the Champions' League to us."
"He saved us in the semifinals and got us here. This is his stage."
Congratulations for CL!
Good job, the Lions Roar! :D
End of Season Review - Season 9
It was a bitter sweet season 9 for Go Leo but it can be called a successful one although they fell short of making history. Not that they did not.
By lifting the Champions' League title for the first time, Go Leo confirmed their pedigree in a select group of champions. Indeed, having almost narrowly exited the competition at the semifinals stage, the club did not waste the opportunity given to them and went on to lift the title that have eluded them.
It was fitting that club Captain Matias Madrid was the one that first saved them in the semifinals and starred in the final. Joy was everyone's as Madrid lifted the trophy after a procession final.
The triumph in the competition could have been sweeter for them had they wrapped up the league title after leading for most of the season. But they suffered a momentary blip in the final stretch and settled for second spot.
Madrid picked up the Player of the Season award for the third year running. The Argentinian finished the season with 13 league goals and 17 assists.
Defender Cole Case was awarded The Young Player of the Season, his second, finishing well above runners-up MacField Dinamo. Case have cemented a spot in the heart of defence and looks to have matured last season.

Strength in defence
Go Leo today announced the arrival of two new players for the upcoming season - Mexican defender Gustavo Ayala, who plays as a leftback and Serbian goalkeeper Miroslav Mladenovic. Both players have been bought for the sum of $35M.
In unveiling the signing, the Boss reiterated that defence has been their priority now for several seasons. Indeed, they have lost out on the league title last season primarily due to conceding too many goals. Their goal against of 30 last season was their worst in history.
"I have said it before and will say it again - you can't win titles if you let in sloppy goals. We have done that too many times last season."
Ayala will slot in a four man defence and is expected to join Marshall Law, Aqeel Tuma and Cole Case as first choice defenders.
Go Leo will not be spending much money or tokens this season and the Boss have opted to stick with the current setup.
The Lions will kick-off their league today having already secured progress into the next round of the Cup competition on a 6-3 aggregate.

Goal Fest-as!
The opening day of the league saw Go Leo romp to a 4-1 win over FC Butcher at Lion's Way.
Rui Festas scored a first half brace before he was substituted due to injury just 16 minutes after the break. Will Score and Jamie Campbell got in the act to polish off a deserved win.
The home side went behind early but picked themselves up immediately with two quick-fire goals from winger Festas. Go Leo piled pressure on the visitor's goal but could not break them further. At the break, the 2-1 scoreline flattered Butcher.
Butcher finally crumbled after the break and after Score broke the offside trap to gleefully score, Campbell stepped up ten minutes from the final whistle to curl a freekick beyond the despairing dive of the goalkeeper.
Debutants Gustavo Ayala and Miroslav Mladenovic impressed in their first appearance for the club.
Go Leo will be looking forward to win their second match against Nicolo FC in their bid to erase last season's disappointment of letting the title slip at the final hurdle.

Un-Devine-ly Score
Striker Stephen Devine and Will Score have left Go Leo after unimpressive displays this season.
Devine, who was top scorer 2 seasons ago, failed to deliver the goods last season and does not seem to be getting any better this season. The Boss made the difficult decision to transfer list the striker to strengthen the club.
Englishman Score had a good return of goals last season but the Boss felt they needed a sharper edge in the final third. Replacing Score and Devine is Brazilian Alessandro Scotta. Also joining Scotta is right-back Jeremie Pinto. The Frenchman's arrival will cast doubt over Marshall Law's right-back spot.

Go Leo Hassa Goodshot
It has been a difficult start of the season for Go Leo. Two draws in their first two Champions' League match was followed by two defeats in the league.
However they turned around their Champions' League fortune with back-to-back wins which takes them top of their group.
Earlier today they were knocked out of the Cup after a dissapointing 3-1 defeat away at Bosexyadi FC. Despite dominating possession, Go Leo were unable to score more than a consolation goal. Indeed, there have been many times this season that they have not created enough chances to kill off matches even with the majority of possession.
Things got better in the league though as debutant Hassa Goodshot scored once and created another in a 4-1 win over Industuped FC. 18 year old Goodshot was plucked from the academy and was instantly pushed upfront to pair new signing Alessandro Scotta.
The fact that Goodshot started the game indicated the depth of problems Go Leo have had this season with strikers.
It did not start brightly for the home team though when Cole Case gave away a third minute penalty. But after Rui Festas got them back in the game, Goodshot got behind the defence to lay a pass for Belgian Sven Goffin to score.
Matias Madrid struck a first half freekick to make it 3-1 just before the break. This was after Goodshot did some splendid work to trouble the visitor's defence before being hauled down just outside the box. It could easily have been a penalty but Madrid made sure that there was not going to be a discussion afterwards.
After the break, Goodshot continued his impressive debut in front of the Lion's Way crowd when he once more go behind the defence before unleashing an unstoppable shot beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
Go Leo dropped a gear after the fourth goal and allowed the visitors to come back at them. But despite that, the home team held on for a morale boosting 4-1 win.

Uninspiring Lions
Go Leo finished the first half of the league at fourth, sitting five points off the leaders Thanh Tuan FC. Despite having probably the best attack & defense in the league (58-9), they have suffered two defeats and dropped 6 points from three draws.
Round 13 saw Go Leo run out emphatic 7-0 winners over Pikarp FC thanks to a brace from Hassa Goodshot.
Go Leo's Captain Consistency, Matias Madrid, lead the goalscoring and assist charts with 12 goals and 9 assists and looks to be the player of the season again. Madrid has been ever present and ever performing for Go Leo and a continued run of form by both him and Goodshot could help the club in their push towards the summit in the second half of the season.
Been awhile since I last updated this section. Here are some updates.
The Lions are now in their 17th season after finishing a disappointing 3rd in Season 16.
The squad is now packed with a few Academy graduates and experienced players and have successfully negotiated their way to the next round of the Cup competition.
The front line is led by talented academy graduates - Mark Closeley, 20 (****, Q95) & Caan Score, 18 (****, Q98).
Another academy graduate Max de Block, 19 (***, Q91) fills the right back spot.
New faces this season are experienced defenders David Kieran, 32 (*****, 104) and Inge Frustol, 27 (*****, 104).

Lions humbled on opening day
Season 17
Go Leo stuttered in their opening league and Champions League matches, firstly drawing 0-0 away to FC Saint Leon in the league and then later succumbing to an embarrassing 4-0 to hosts, HSC.
After the defeat, the Lions were quick to bring in reinforcements - attacking midfielder Jimi George, 22, who can play on either side of the flanks or thru the middle, right full back Wessel de Graaf, 28 and young defensive midfielder Eric Haman. The trio will be available for their debut in the next league match against Coleys Allstars.
Speaking at their unveiling, Go Leo's manager insisted that it was not a knee-jerk reaction to the opening day results but did admit that it accelerated the process of getting them in.
"We needed some fresh ideas in the middle of the park, which was lacking last season. That is why we focused on bringing new legs into the middle of the park."
"Mark (Closeley) and Caan (Score) have not started brilliantly upfront for us but that was also the case last season with Mark. At the end of the season, he was our top scorer and top assist provider. I am not worried with our strikeforce. We have sufficient fire power."
Late goal floors Lions
Season 17
Go Leo's dismal start to the season continued as the succumbed to a 2-1 away loss to traditional rivals Xaitan. This followed their 1-2 loss at home in the first leg of the Cup competition and a hard earned 1-0 league win against Coleys Allstars.
The Lions did well to claw back to tie the match at 1-1 in the 87th minute through Caan Score, only to concede a goal two minutes later.
New boys, Jimi George, and Gaston Ricardone failed to assert themselves in the match.

Been away for the festive period, now I'm back!
Still in it to win it
Season 17
Go Leo lost 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League semi final at SV Schwalben.
The home side dominated possession but the Lions had the majority of chances on target - the brilliant Schwalben goalkeeper thwarting the visitors on numerous occasions. The visitors were without two key players with winger Tohid Sadeghian and midfielder Rodrigo Altamirano missing through injuries.
Caan Score ensured Go Leo went home with an away goal, scoring on 70th minute to make it 2-1. The away goal keeps the Lion with a fighting chance to progress to the final.
In an earlier league match, Go Leo took over second place from Ghis FC Forever after winning 2-1 away.
The visiting Lions scored one in each half, first through Jimi George on 14 minutes off a Mark Closeley freekick before Closeley himself dispatched a set-piece into the top corner of the host's goal.
Ghis pulled one back late in the game but it was too little too late.
Go Leo's seven match unbeaten run - and fifth straight league win, has lifted them after a poor start to this season's campaign. They sit 11 point behind leaders FC Mattwei with five matches to go.
By George, Jimi's done it!
Season 17
Jimi George was the hero for Go Leo after the attacking midfielder scored a second half brace against SV Schwalben to send 9-man Go Leo into the Champions' League final on a 3-2 aggregate.
Lion's Way was packed as the home fans showed up to see their team try to overcome a 2-1 first leg deficit. Go Leo made tactical changes and started with a back three and a three-man midfield. George was pushed from his wide position to play behind lone striker Mark Closeley.
The 204000 strong home support had cause for concern after just five minutes when midfielder Gaston Ricardone was sent off for an reckless challenge. The home team still dominated possession and were ahead on total shots but just could not find a way past the visiting goalkeeper.
It almost turned disastrous for the Lions when Rodrigo Altamirano was shown a second yellow card just before halftime.
Go Leo went into the break with two men short and a mountain to climb.
The home side decided not to make any changes at the break and continued with their three-man defence. The use of wingbacks proved advantageous to the Lions as they made up for the loss of personnel in midfield.
George stunned the visitors with a super strike from outside the box in the 63rd minute to put the hosts ahead.
At 1-0, Go Leo were assured for a place in the final, having an away goal advantage. But George made sure of the victory with a second goal ten minutes from time.
This is only their third Champions' League final appearance in history and a victory in the final will see them pick up their second title.
Lions' run halted
Season 17
Go Leo saw their league run of nine matches unbeaten end after going down 2-0 away at champions elect FC Mattwei.
The match also saw them suffer yet another injury, this time to midfielder Peter Parker.
The injury is a blow to their preparation for the Champions' League final as they are already without two starting midfielders through suspension.
The 2-0 scoreline was not the true reflection of the match as the two team were evenly matched. However, the Lions somehow managed to concede two goals in each half and the introduction of the rested Mark Closeley later in the game, failed to change the scoreline.
The result leaves Go Leo third, needing just a point to secure Champions League football next season.
Lions looking to capture coveted silverware
Season 17
The Lions will be making their first appearance in the final of the champions league after 8 seasons. Fans of the club are overjoyed that they have reached the final game of the competition and will be hoping Go Leo bring back a silverware.
Truong Dat FC are defending Champions League champions are will be favourites coming into the match.
Unfortunately for Go Leo, they will be playing without midfielders Rodrigo Altamirano and Gaston Ricardone who are both suspended after being sent off in the semifinal. Midfielder Peter Parker has recovered from a knock just in time to make the starting lineup.
Can the Lions prevail tonight?
Lions end Season 17 without silverware

League - Champions
CL - Group Stage
Cup - Playoffs
In what was to be a roller coaster season, Go Leo secured the league title with one match to go and ended the season 6 points clear of second placed pauh FC. It came as a surprised as the Lions picked up three losses in their opening 6 fixtures. But remained unbeaten since.
Things began to click after Go Leo reverted to their 4-2-2-2 formation, discarding the 3W-2N-3W-2 formation which they preferred in Season 17.
Defender Max de Block, striker Mark Closeley and attacking midfielder Yvon Josipovic starred for the Lions in the league campaign and is expected to continue their good run of form in season 19.
In the Champions League, Go Leo failed to make up the ground after the formation change and finished winless in their group.
Lions on the hunt for defensive cover
Season 19
Go Leo are rumored to be on the look out for a defender to boost their backline. Several names have been linked with a move to Lion's Way including World Cup winner Mats Hummel and Belgian captain Vincent Kompany.
However, Lion's Way sources decline to comment on the rumors but insisted that strengthening the midfield remain their top priority.
After the first day of the season, Go Leo has so far brought in experienced goalkeeper Nicola Giulani, 31 to replaced retired Nicolas Hohs and captured 24-year old striker, Wael Ben Younes to provide competition for Caan Score and Mark Closeley upfront.
The Lions recorded a 1-1 draw in their 2nd leg cup preliminary match but are through to the qualifying rounds on a 3-2 aggregate.

Getting it Right
Season 19
Go Leo opened their league campaign on a sour note, losing 0-2 at home to Hero FC. Despite dominating and creating more chances than the visitors, the Lions failed to find a breakthrough.
They have since bounced back with two wins on the trot, beating F...D. FC 2-0 away before posting a hard fought 2-1 win over visiting SC Sternschanze.
Earlier on Day 4, Go Leo unveiled new recruits - 31 year old defender Wout Brondeel and 25 year old midfielder Mirjafar Nezamipour.
The Lions are still looking to sign another midfielder to add some bite in the middle of the park.
Lions losing their way early
Season 19
Go Leo face the threat of going through their worst league season in history after they suffered their fourth defeat of the season after only seven matches.
The Lions succumbed to a 4-3 loss to hosts Juventus fc yesterday, despite almost staging a miraculous comeback after going 3-1 down. However, goals from Ben Younes, Yvon Josipovic and Mark Closeley were in vain.
Their league form is a stark contrast to their Champions League campaign, where they have a 100% record after four matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding nil.
The gaffer has since come out to declare that they are looking to bring in reinforcements to try to improve their league fortunes.
Lions find away comfort
Season 19
Go Leo clinched a vital 2-3 away win in the first leg of their last 16 Champions League tie at Grays Athletic.
Despite falling behind early in the 14th minute, the first goal they have conceded this season in the campaign, the Lions equalised soon after when Yvon Josipovic set up Caan Score to make it 1-1. The two sides remained level until halftime.
Eleven minutes after the restart, man of the match Yvon Josipovic burst through the middle to slot home and give the visitors a 2-1 lead but their joy was shortlived. Just two minutes later, the home side equalized.
Score found space in the 82nd minute and carved out an opening for Jimi George to rifle in the winning goal and a vital third away goal to ensure that Go Leo bring a huge advantage home for the second leg.
The Lions have found comfort in the Champions League this season and they have a 100% record in the campaign. Go Leo currently lie fifth on goal difference in the league and look to have a struggle to maintain Champions League status next season.
Go Leo in CL Quarterfinals, moves up to 3rd in the league
Season 19
Go Leo squeezed through to the quarterfinals for the Champions League despite a 1-2 home loss - their first defeat in the campaign this season, to Grays Athletic. The Lions progressed on the away goals rule with the tie locked at 4-4. With the match tied at 1-1, Grays Athletic scored in the 85th minute to make it 2-1 and another goal would have seen them through. However the home side hung on to book a place to the last eight.
The Lions have seen a massive turnaround in fortunes in the league this season, which have seen them go eight matches unbeaten that has carried them up to third in what is proving to be a very tough league. They visit 12th placed SC Sternschanze today before hosting league leaders SFL Bomben tomorrow.

Mighty Lions powers ahead
Season 20
With five league wins and a draw, their best start in four seasons, Go Leo sit top of the table, two points ahead of their nearest rival.
An expected exit in the cup, a competition which the Lions have never taken seriously, will probably serve them well this season. While in the Champions League they are joint top, and still unbeaten.
After capturing the Champions League title last season, Go Leo have made it a goal to reach another final and hopefully retain the trophy.
The men in green have brought in five new players this season to strengthen key departments - a striker, two midfielders, a defender and a goalkeeper.

Austrian striker, Osman Mehlem, has so far been prolific for them this season, keeping last season's top striker Wael Ben Younes on the bench. To celebrate last season's Champions League win, Go Leo unveiled a new home kit to be used this season - an unorthodox design that is very much different from their recognized green and white hoops.
Talking Tactics 4-3W-3
Season 20
This season, for the very first time, Go Leo will deploy 3 strikers in a prefered formation of 4-3W-3.
It is not like Go Leo never played three strikers before, having used 4-2-1-3 effectively in a Cup match 2 seasons ago to successfully overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit, but this will be the first time they will be using this for the majority of their matches.
Quite excited with how the season will unfold with this very attack heavy but light midfield formation.
The weakest point of the squad is centre of midfield and an underperforming midfielder could undo all the good work.
The academy strikers Mark Closeley & Caan Score, who have struggled to play alongside each other as a twin strikerforce, seem to thrive playing flanking a central striker, in this case, Osman Mehlem.
As with most flat formations, I prefer to play mixed passing, with mixed focus. I've given up on the offside trap for the last 3 seasons now and will continue to play without.
Tackling is set as hard as usual to ensure that the ball is won and passed out quickly.
Legendary Lion Matias Madrid immortalized
Season 20
Go Leo today renamed their Lion's Way stadium to Matias Madrid Arena in honor of their legendary left attacking midfielder. The recently upgraded 260,000 capacity stadium will now be the landmark dedicated to their footballing icon.

Lions lie in second
Season 20
Go Leo finished the first half of the season second in the league, a point behind leaders FC Dacii Liberi but with 7 points separating first and fifth, it is still anyone's to play for.
The Lions were unfortunate to be dumped out of the Champions League - a title they won last season, at the group stage after finishing equal on points with Stroe 4, but lost out based on head-to-head record.
Striker Osman Mehlem has 11 goals and four assists to his name after 18 competitive matches - equal to Mark Closeley but who has played two games more. Rejuvenated Caan Score has 6 goals and 5 assists to his name after 17 appearances while Yvon Josipovic lead the assists with 8.
Go Leo will look to maintain their current league form ahead of their clash with the leaders in two days time.
