Your pm didn't got the assist (his name in the parenthesis beside the scorer) ?
At what moment the icon pop-up ?

haha, I don't think we have the time to take a screenshot (unless it's a F-K or a C-K and we expect this).

I have seen the PM icon the last 2 season about 4,5 times each, most of the times it was after a counter and the player with the SA(PM) was never credited with the assist because he was with the first pass, never the last pass, once,i was so close to take the screen shot...

An assist for a goal ? A pass (without leading to a goal) ?
    In a F-K or C-K that leads to a goal ?
This must be a new one
    or extremely rare.
I had an icon appear today for defensive wall. I never really thought much about that SA before, just took it for granted the player was a 'better' defender but today, when an opponent had a free kick, it hit my player, he blocked it and 'defensive wall' icon popped up.

Can someone explain to me how special abilities work.
    Are they essential?
    Are they irrelevant?
Should almost every player in my team have one?
Which specific special abilities are more important than others?

This is the continual debate, but the theory is as follows:

    1) Special abilities are not essential.

    2) No, they are not irrelevant. If the right players have the right SA then they can be very useful.

    3) It depends on if you can get them/develop them on the player. Don't try and put an SA on every player you buy. The best players to put an SA on are the Youth graduates, and 18yo players from the Transfer Market if they are Fast Trainers (if these exist any more). And put the SA on after you put an extra position on a player (if you are going to), and before you train up the player's Quality.

    4) There are SAs which should work better depending on position, eg GK (1-on-1 stopper and Penalty stopper); Dx (Aerial defender, Defensive wall); Mx (Dribbler, Playmaker - these are particularly useless, IMO); AMx (Shadow striker); ST (1-on-1 scorer). Corner kick can be put on any wing player (xL or xR) with good crossing skill; Free-kick and Penalty kick on any forward player (AMx, ST) with good Shooting and Finishing skills.

The effect of the SA is to give an extra star performance in the particular area the SA is aimed at, e.g a 4* striker with Penalty kick SA should have the chance of scoring a Penalty that a 5* ST would have.

IMO, there are only 4 good SA. Those are Free-kick, Corner-kick, Defensive wall & Aerial defender.

Shadow striker also, it's debatable. Apart from these 5, I think nothing is worth training.
I've also seen many teams without SA or maybe only 1 freekick taker being successful.

Most of them are just like shadows on pitch, your SS is just one exception.
