Do we get a really last notice for renew contracts?

I have players which i need to renew their contract.
I wonder, do we get from the system a last minute warning or it is by surprise?
I know i got many messages before... i am only asking when do we get the last one.

you dont get a last message. you get 7 days to sign him and the last message you get is the one that says he left.

starting the first day of the season. So on day 8 you lose him.
