notes:
i will use mostly basic english, for a more translator friendly version (F2Pers = free to players/non token buyers, streakers = good results, slumpers = bad results, runs = previous results)
it is not really my post if i do not joke around. as i have said before, a serious day feels like i killed my inner child, or at least strangled him (kudos to dizzy)

teams and competitions must be of similar quality, within ±5? not enough tests to confirm. example: mostly 1* F2Pers in a mostly 1* F2Pers league/cup/CL and vice versa
must be at least active (i do not know when the abandoned team handicap pops up, but i am saying at least once a week)

every player has at least ranted about injuries, not being able to score, and of course, losing to teams (even against those in an illegal formation) far below their level. i too am an active player *shocked*, and even the great and mighty fonz *heart attack* suffer through the same strange fate. i partially agree with the people that say it is scripted, but the other part does not as you do see some changes. i called them 'challenge scripts'. i created a test team (rags to riches) because i was not entirely sure. i am NOT saying they are a mistake (...yet). they are doing far better than goonskies (and higher FB points), but if they start losing then i will bring out the sad truth and tell them 'you were a mistake, son, go home'. i now am absolutely, positively, yippy ki MOFOing yay percent sure of this. i now proudly present streakers and slumpers - the theory of team form - brought to you by try lingo wall, absolutely free language learning (all right (see, even this), done with the shameless advertisements)

so i looked over my goonskies thread just to confirm a pattern. the unholy runt of streakers and slumpers, that is your team's performance. there are many types of them as far as i can tell, such as:
streakers; amazing run of games, win against stronger opponents, BARELY ANY INJURIES, barely any
* runs may vary, my longest streak us just under 2 weeks
suspensions, barely any problems
slumpers; can not score, losses against illegal formations, DISCO FEVER LEVELLED INJURIES, disco fever levelled suspensions, disco fever levelled problems
* same here, had a week slump with 2 injuries per game, 2 games a day, 16 injuries, emergency bought and sold players, all losses, for 4 days straight, after that my barely (football wise) legal team was on fire as usual
note: barely winning against much weaker teams count as a slump, in my honest opinion

sure you might say it is just your team, have you looked through the other teams? yes i have. i made a mental note on a few teams near my quality in my league on how they are doing, and which run they are currently in

for those of you who say 'do not take this too seriously, it is a game', i know. i tend to overkill thinking things. i am 23 years old and i have a few white hair spots. whenever i play a strategy game, my backup plans have backup plans as well. you get the picture. to successfully create a mod, one must check many files, even those not related to the mod itself, to ensure compatibility, i see this test the same way

heed my notes though, a mainly levelled playing field, of course you can exclude yourself and other high levelled players from your research. this season was mainly balanced on goonskies, so i could include many more teams compared to last season

and another note: im so tempted to choose the 4th option -.-"

i have the same team as last season who went unbeaten and only conceded 11 goal and even though i improved player`s at the start season for some reason even though i start with strongest squad my team are slow at start of season as proved this season with the first 10 games won 4 drew 3 lost 3 but as soon as i start the second half the season they fly like pig on heat last 11 games 9 win 2 draws in the league to leave me 1pt behind 1st and i play them wednesday and with champions league for which i should make final (4-0 1st leg) i am now 17 games unbeaten in all, so i find weird that with best squad same players improved i get a start like i did and in those 10 games conceded 19 goals with by far the best defense in league compared to conceding 11 goals in 26 last season,

on a another note, you 23 with a few white hair spot`s ? lucky sod i was bald by 23 :)

so polls (well, this type of poll) usually work with the pollee reading through what the OP stated, then vote depending on whether or not the pollee agrees with the OP, then leaves a statement defending their vote

the score is, agree FC 1 - 1 dont care FC (lets say spornybol is the agreeer (for arguments sake), cat and i havent voted). dont care FC currently suffering an illegal formation, 20% possession intact. will this be yet another trolled result?

I don't know what to vote for. I am unsure of the facts u stated but i think that team form is basically random to make u shell out money. I think if i vote, i will go for the 3rd option...:p

then try it out. thats mainly why i tried to make the post tempting yet funny. if you wont try it out theres always the 4th option lurking in the distance. I DID remember i clicked the multiple choice thing so have fun looking through our great products! sure back then i sort of believed that, but teams IRL DO have streaks and slumps. so what if teams ingame face streaks and slumps too? you do have to admit its pretty clever, but like other things, the scripting is (i believe) way below average. if it were school id give an F+ if possible

i seriously believe just what if this scripts randomizes your teams form over the next few days to streak/slump? sort of makes sense doesnt it? now the below average part i was talking about pops up from it doesnt protect you against illegal formations when youre in a slump. what i call a trolled match is if you severely outmatch the opponent by a lot, by my guess thatd be AROUND +2* per starting 11? dont know how many quality points that is, might one be kind enough to tell me pweases wit chewwies on towp?

But, I'd like da share my survey:
The winner of my league, he never get slump!
Team form= 21W,3D,1L
Team Qlty= 4th class in my league (I am 1st)
I have tracing all the top 3Club in my league.
Only that team, he never have get troll result (only 1-1D against Bot Team) , never lose even draw two matches in a week, all his draws and 1lose is vs the top 3, never get injury & red alot (of course he had but never more than 2 in a week as far as I see).
The worst fact I noticed is.. He never attend for his live matches (only 2 I saw him).
Now ,,, he is gonna finish the league with 9pt ahead of the 2nd place rival(my team;) )

I never had long streak or slump this season.
What would you say for this????

is the top of your league overpowering the rest of the league? if so, exclude them from your observation. im actually in the silver linings with my team, in between the token buyers and the nons. i ended placing in 4th, and im 4th strongest in the league. if i exclude us 4, i get a prettu much levelled playing field and i look through their games and stuff. as i said before barely winning might count as a slump

- start/length of days may vary
- changing tactics/players with no effect when in slump
- i (and i know many others) have terrible 1st weeks, where we suffer an insane amount of injuries during the auction frenzy *cough*. the worse ive gotten was 16 players. 2 per game, 2 games per day, empty day in between, over 4 days. I KNOW this slumpll return again this season. funny thing is i train players during the 2nd-4th week even pass the red line, and no injuries
- the following 2 weeks my teams are on fire, even beating the actual top of the league (if somewhere in the ballpark, not some distant planet)
- the last week my teams slump like hell. barely winning against even unmanaged/illegal formation teams. with draws and losses piling each day

im just trying to start a debate here, thats why my posts are kind of long. i did use basic english if anyone wants to translate it to their language and discuss it elsewhere. its sort of like a forewarning to the other managers. many people know about it already (and even have the same streaks and slumps as i have)
everyday you should see people ranting about something (injuries, troll matches, cant win), but does that person rant. nope, there are weeks where ranters are quiet

My worst slump lasted me two seasons.With player injuries and constant lost in quality. I decided it was time to dump the players I have using since season 1 and revamp. I dumped them all put together a new team and ended up going on a winning streak,that barely got me into the next level.

i am guessing you were promoted, then you decided to keep your former team? that probably means you were not at the next level's quality. i am probably guessing there are always unmanaged teams in every league. dd you compare your records to their teams?

yea the quality of my team were higher than a lot of the teams in my league,but I had to drop a lot of players because they were doing horrible. Im happy with my current players. They show they are capable of competing now.

thats pretty weird. you kept most of the team, but you were above average in your league? how did the league leaders compare to your team?

I definitely agree with this theory of the varying form.
I experienced this over the last seasons, from level 6 to 11, it's basically every year the same.
What I learned from it is that it is not a good idea to change your tactics, sell all your players and buy new ones, to get over it. This makes it even worse, so to have a well-established formation is useful and gives you an edge over your opponents.
Nevertheless, it will not help you to overcome the form crisis.
Additionally, there seem to be some teams, that don'T have it. The following is just a idea of me, why this is the case: i have an opponent in my league for about 5 seasons, not having any huge form crisis (maximum 3-4 games every seasons in a row he looses). What is different to the rest of the league is the fact that his squad consists of scouts only.

Maybe this is a brash way of nordeus to elicit more tokens out of us ;)

I have never resorted to Mr. Scout (ever.), and have had good seasons, without buying tokens. (not talking of BvB, my alts I do not buy tokens.) I did farm some though, and sometimes I can afford the youth on those teams, but mostly just regular transfer list players. I agree having just a few formations and not changing too much is better.

I farm most of my tokens and have a fairly strong team for the past 3 season (levels 2-4) as a serious player. I probably had the second strongest 1st eleven (strongest squad but my starters have lower stars than my bench) last season but ended 2nd because

1. I hit a slump at the start of the second round (lasted 4 matches)
2. Couldn't beat a team that was 7-8 ratings below mine

Sticking to playing three formations only 4-5-1, 3-5-2 & 3-2-3-2 actually helped me progress.

a bit too repetitive right having to see the same thing over and over again? usually an injury ravaged 1st week, then dominating for 2 weeks, and finally the slump. so qambu has a different pattern, do you see it every season? kind of curious

barely winning counts too IMHO. last season i was in second for most of the season. the top 4 were 3 token buyers and myself. my last 3 matches were against the other big 4s. before those 3 games i knew i was in trouble since i faced teams under +10* illegal and unmanaged teams and barely won with just 1 goal. even the top of the league (5* over me) barely won with one of the lowest (15ish* to him). i dropped to 4th, the top went on undefeated. even though he overpowered the league the slump was still visible at the end of the season. i wanted to put a dent into their league celebration but i was slumping then -.-

we see many people asking for suggestions on trying a new formation, we sometimes see the same person asking for another formation. i just keep it with th 4-4-2 for better and for worse. completely selling off players and buying new players to fit a new formation is bad for ones finances. wont do well during a slump

we hear lots of people complaining they just bought a scout and suck (i havent bought 1 yet), then they stop complaining. does that mean theres also a hidden teamwork value involved and the scouts perform as they should?

To answer your query, I believe the pattern is quite repetitive for me. I remember in Level 3 when the four of us were fighting for the title, I drew with a team that all the other top 4 team beat comfortably and after that I scraped through some matches (winning by 2 or 3 goals when the big boys were thrashing them). I simply concluded that I had bought the wrong type of strikers for my team.

As for scout players, I bought a scout just because I had enough tokens to do so. It was just to test out whether he was worth it. In another thread I shared my experiences on this but no harm repeating it here I guess.

A scout is supposed to be at least playable, since he is supposedly scouted (of course some like real football, there are bound to be duds). I thought I bought myself a dud too. He was a MC playmaker, aged 22. Placed him in the middle of a 3-man midfield and was outperformed by a 20 year old MC (fast trainer). His last five match rating regularly looked like 6-7-5-6-6. In my experience, playmakers do tend to score more goals, so I expected him to be my Paul Scholes. Unfortunately he only provided 1 assist in 18 matches and about 2 goals. Average rating of 6.3 including friendlies.

Finally I decided to ditch my 3-man midfield for a 2-man midfield and voila, it seemed as if the shackles were unleashed. My friend joked that since he was World Class (he went from Scout to World Class with 3 cones), my player probably felt insulted being asked to share the stage with 2 other MCs. He hit form at the right time and helped me finish 2nd. 8 assists & goals in 8. Was MoM for a crunch match with a rival who eventually finished below me. So I cant really say tht buying a scout is not a good idea but I guess formation plays a big part in success of a player.

im still a bit iffy about the hidden teamwork value though. many people on both sides of the fence TBH
some say newly acquired players (scouts too) often times suck during their first week
some say they rock (including me), all we know is, its a secret

i have noticed they rocked because i usually buy when my players are in a streak. of course thats just me, curious of what others have to say about this. did you buy that player during a slump? still hoping i get more replies from people with your pattern though, most people here have the same pattern as me

I bought him early in the season when I was building a decent run. And he didn't contribute to it, the other young MC did. My scouted player actually helped me out of the rut eventually. I believe it was more of a position preference rather than teamwork.

I have seldom been hit with mass injuries, but let's not jinx that... ;)

most players that hit +10 injuries (including myself) have a full 22 player team. i just keep things running with only 5 subs, on a budget.
so far im not too ranty about injuries

funny thing is at the start of most seasons, ill get many injuries. now with both budget teams uninjured, im facing yet another slump where i cant even win in all 3 competitions. lets see what the following 2 weeks are like for me

Not quite sure about the full squad = injury magnet theory because I played with a full squad in Seasons 1,2 & 4, with not much injury concern and probably only had 4-5 players out at a time in season 3.

Last season had a 20-man squad, probably had 4 players out at different times in the season. This season, I have a full squad and I have 4 out short-term, one was during the short pre-season, one was on opening day & 2 were injured yesterday in two different matches, but those I can blame on lack of match condition, both started with 75% condition.

75% should be more than enough to play through a game. i had 3 games overnight with a player under 20% fitness/morale, i just checked my team and hes not injured after playing 3 games
so your injuries are more spread apart compared to the usual lots of injuries during the opening week?

Suffered my fifth defeat in 8 competitive matches, losing to slightly weaker squads/first 11s. It could be an indication of a slump.

Been playing 4-4-2, 3-1-4-2, 3-4-1-2 in those 5 loses, which have served me well previously against some of the same opponents/formations.

Noted that:
1. My strikers miss a hatful of chances even tho there is no change in field position
2. I usually have the higher possesion & more chances created.
3. Shot efficiency is always under 20%.
4. One defender will always get a 6 or 5 rating, the rest can still get a 7 or 8.
5. One or two players simply don't turn up (minus only 5-10% condition, as opposed to the usualy 15-20%)
6. A lot of the time, MCs/DMCs are not performing.
7. A player that is currently training Defensive wall SA, starting to not perform as well as before he started.
8. A winger who just completed his Playmaker training is not providing assist/scoring goals like he used to

Suffered 3 short term injuries which usually take only a day or two to recover. No big deal.

yep, the normal 1st week slump where were tempted to change our team a lot. this is your 1st time experiencing it? im finally out of the slump with mediocre performance, still havent shifted to 2nd week yet

the SA thing is weird though. many people say your players need time to get used to a new position/ability, and will often perform terribly for a few days. ive only trained 2 players another position, and they sucked for a 4 days. funny part is they were playing the same position and stuff

Yup this is my first early season slump in 5 seasons. I've changed formation for tonight's encounter with an unpredictable opponent. Lets see

I want to change the surfer league and to be with my friends in the same league

Facts:

-Im currently visiting* level3 with currently 32.9 avg team
-playing "goalie" (narrow diamond) formation, never changing that before match time (sometimes if i got yellow card i change the tackle to easy and/or change to normal attacking, not whole pitch at my games... etc)
-every time im sitting (and nervously jumping from injuries) and watching my games (yes im commited :D )
-got red packs from viewing ads on phone**
-i have only 1 res prior for injuries

AND YES! I HAVE INJURIES EVERY F*****G DAY! 1 "mandatory" injury from match and 1 obligatory from practices! annoyed first time but im getting use to it :(

*1st season: late beginner, taking my team as 13th finishing at 3rd
2nd season: heroic league win (fightning with an almost exactly avg korean guy for first place) and easy CL win, defeated at cup from a weaker team
3rd season: currently winning league and seems like my CL is ridiculous too and im gonna win both (hope)... and my cup is strong with 4th (5th) grade teams -.-

** and i have a theory if u have lot of red packs u get injuries mandatory... :(
