Win CL and finish below 4th = no CL next season. Really.

Try it. I laughed when I saw the "you didn't qualify to the CL".

No competition in Europe has ever left the previous winner out.

The finest example is Nottingham Forest, the only club in the world that managed to win the CL twice after one sole English title.

Here with 120 people working in such mega-project no one noticed anything unusual in this.

you seem to forget that this game is basing the competitions on name only. This is not a real life comparison. If that were the case, there would be a europa league as well and then the 3rd place of CL get dumped into that...etc

Liverpool did it a few yrs back 3-3 V AC Milan and 5th missed out because this never happened before but now if you win and finish 5th you can`t compete in champions league now ( i believe ) and follow year Liverpool had to go through qualifying stages to get to main draw

the winner is always granted a place in the CL now. if they dont have it already from the standings, they will get in on the qualifying stages at worst.

It always did. If the CL winner finished below the CL places, they would qualify at the expenses of the last team, like in Spain in 2000:

1999–2000 La Liga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The story in 2005 was exceptional in that the FA didn't want Liverpool to qualify in place of Everton in fear of conflicts. Everton had already been barred from Europe in 1985 because of the ban on Liverpool that got extended to all English teams. Merseyside derby would become hot.
