Don't trust ratings..
What was his contribution in the games he played? Any assists or goals?
Did he lose possession in mid field causing a counter attack on you?
How did your team fare with him in the lineup?
Have you watched the game or just seen the ratings later?
I think you made a mistake...MC generally do get bad ratings and they need some more time to settle in, especially the one with the playmaker ability...
Just persist with your MC for a longer period, increase there attack a bit more...
I think I you had sticked with him he would have definitely paid dividend for you in the next season for sure...
Did you try him in both MC positions?, when you get a new player I tend to find he does average at best in his first match then starts to get better!, where you over training him? did you try resting him a couple of games then throw him back in the team?, you might just have been unlucky and got a dud!.
Btw, you could hard train the basterd or drop him to bench for a couple of games.. Lol
And yes as skidz says if he is left footed use him on the left side and vice-versa...
For strikers I does not matters a lot but for MC it does makes a difference, but if I was you I would have played my right footed striker on the right side and vice-versa...
But the main thing is if our player is performing badly we should try every trick up to sleep to make him perform well whether it is playing him on the right or left side...:)...
I used to have have an amc who has high ratings but poor form..i drop him for almost entire of the season..but when my amc injured..i put him back although not trusting him..and he show me in couple of games he doing better..4 assists and 2 goals enough to impress me
Some good advice here.
I would also say, try assigning his skill points differently as well as the other suggestions. Look at your more successful MC's and see what their skills are like, and see if assigning them to the poor performing player in the same way helps. Has worked for me. :)
Usually my MC's and GK's have the worst ratings. The MC's it's really funny, I have a guy score two goals and get a six.
i m happy now as i bought a new mc who has scored 2 goals in 3 matches and his ratings are 6-8-8
my previous mc had stats of 0 goals 0 assists in 12 games :D it was like he didn t even was getting the ball i watched live matches but for 12 games there was hardly something from my mc
Im aware of that dude as I know how hard it is to get a left footed left player!, same as either footed players are rare now aswell!, you have to grab them when you see them, Im ofton looking on the scout list for them but there not on there much either. I do think that it can make a difference but thats just my take on things!, I have right footed left players now as since I upgraded my quality of players I have not found any that are of a high enough quality to what I need.
I will try o resume the 3 types of players fast:
because this game have:
1- Players for NOTHING
2- Players for SOMETHING
3- Players for ALWAYS
Type 1 is who have 7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-and can have an eternal 7 but been ST only score 4 goals in 26 matches or never appear or do a contribution in the game. If in some matches you see a player like this (put 1 week of period of prove) sell that if he have 5-6 or more stars, because is in the 6* when the player show the 95% that he can do for you. if don't work with 6*, don't waste time training to 7* or 8* coz all is proggrammed by default
Type 2 is like my Ryan Giggs, (and your player?) have a 4-5-8-6-6-4-7.... variable, 1 match score, 1 do something 1 nope. That is good, if he do a contribution.
Type 3 is like this player that, all (I think) we have in the team, and is the only player, that can win a match alone, appears 1 time and another, and have a 8-9-9-8-8-8-8-8-9-9....7 maybe, but is a god and can do the 1/2 of the work to win a league.
Remember: When you buy a player, put a "test period" of 1 week, too is interesting in the case of a young player to obtain a fast trainer.
Remember2: Morale?? is like nothing.... a player dissappear of the game when have a injurie, and have a penalty in the skills/activity if:
-wrong position
-tired of condition
-low morale
-no bonus for victory too now I will consideeer it a penalty.
The condition, is the bigger penalty, wrong position? in 90% cases doesnt matter, morale? can change (maybe) for example the phisicall skills with a penalty of -1 or -2, but the bonus i really thing that give you more than that.
remember, all, is proggramming by default.
PS added: oh, and too we can try to discover if in the hidden skills affect all that I mentioned + the left foot...? too? in higher mode? more penalty than if you have a ST with 0 condition, 0 morale and as a AMC?... nope because I scored with that. So the foot, can be a complement, but in less % affects.
That's for sure.
someone on here, cant remember the name, said to try the player out of position for a game or two and then put him back and see if the ratings increase. apparently it worked for them. just sayin.
I dont think this game is complicated enough to factor in the left or right foot. or height/weight for that matter.
Wether a left footed ST or MC plays better on the left or right, no one really knows if it really makes a difference, but like Skidz says, you need to TRY EVERYTHING to help get the player his form. I've done it. 80% of the time my right-footed MC plays better on the left side. I don't know why. I just go with the flow.
As for right footed ML/AML or vice versa, they are not a terrible investment. It simply means they'll cut in more and score :p haha well at least for my AML & my friend's. We prob have two of the best AML in the league atm, and they are right footed.
After reading this thread and ones like them - I decided to be ruthless and sell my new star under-preforming midfielder, after I trained him to scout level.
This is the flop I sold after only 8 games of 64555555.

He was nearly scout level when I brought him. It was much easier to get a slightly older replacement instead.
Fortunately I only brought him for a few tokens it will be interesting to see if he performs for his new team which plays a different formation to mine.
Update
--- the replacement for the high value flop scored on his debut. A left footed centre mid with a playmaker ability already. Played him on the left of a three. The commentary said "on to his left foot shoots". The moral of the story is be ruthless sell the flop if you can get cheaper better options quickly. Also keep an eye in favoured sides of the pitch for a player.

My former flop Martensson seems to be performing well for his new club.
See below:

I could not get him to play better then then 4/5 after a 6 in his first game.
I noticed his new employers play him in a classic 4-4-2 formation. Whereas in my team he was mostly one of a midfield three. Whether this is the difference in his performance I do not know. But it may be a factor.
It shows that perseverance may be the answer and formation changes. Or maybe just a new manager and and new club?!
CM was along with GK the most frustrating positions in the game. The new rating system has either changed that or I got really lucky. It is hard to tell because I bought new players at both spots this season and they are both getting much better ratings than I am used to.
If they did change the ratings for them I have no idea if it was just an overall jump in their ratings or if they actually reworked the logic involved to make it a better indicator of form.
I for one do not blame you for selling him. Those ratings are just too bad, even for a CM in this game discounting any recent changes. It is possible that he could have worked out long term but to me it just is not worth putting up with those ratings long enough to find out. I have had players that grew into the position. In fact last years GK was getting 5-6 ratings even while conceding only 14 goals in 31 matches.....Then the last 8 matches were all 7-8 ratings and one MoM.......Didn't save his job ultimately because he started game 1 this season with a 5 and there was a top of the market fast trainer at the position on the market. Since inserting the new guy he has gone 7 straight 7-8 performances and conceded only twice.
I tend to give new players about 10-12 matches before I judge them unless their ratings/stats are extreme in either direction. Like has been the case with my new RAM who scored 6 goals in his first 4 starts and is my 2nd leading scorer. avg match rating right at 9 with the new system......Another change that made it harder to gauge talent......
Not sure if they just made a 5 into 6, 6 into 7, 7 into 8, etc or if they added the 10 as the best of the 9 ratings......Leaning toward the prior given my teams avg ratings but if that is the case then it either didn't affect defenders or my 3 great returning starters all fell off almost exactly a point lol.
I Like the discussion in this thread. Regarding midfield footing, I find that formation, attacking style (flanks or middle) and player preference all have a role. Nearly impossible to test accurately but lots of pseudo sport scientists play this game. :)
