The top group is all close in Quality so it comes down to how well you set up your team and the randomness of the game. Many of us farm and a couple I think buy (I stopped making 7* players in effort to get in a realistic Cup..) and to be in the same League with active managers is quite nice.

I agree i mean if same quality it has to be random, just think a 9* free kick specialist doesnt score against u o corner specialist always fail, hello.... Of course it's much better play with active teams i usually draw against most bot, it sucks...
