Ranking special abilites

Hello everyone!
It is now a new season, a new challenge. I just won the league title by beating my friend in the last round. He was 2 points ahead and led 0-1, but I won (all hail Corner Kick Specialist!!!).
For most of the time I played, I had a relatively high quality squad, but a very small number of them had special abilities. Now I have decided to go in hunt for those kinds of players more. What I want to know is how valuable all these SA really are?
PK stopper? 1-on-1 stopper? Aerial defender? Defensive wall? Dribbler? Playmaker? FK taker? PK taker? 1-on-1 scorer? Shadow striker? Which SAs are a superb addition and are there any useless which I should totally ignore?

Definitely go for aerial defender and shadow striker. Free kick taker and defensive wall could be quite useful as well.

Corner kick specialist is one of the best imo ;-)

I know. That is why it is the only SA I didn't ask about in the post :D

aerial defender and defensive wall are actually noticeably useful, shadow striker can be useful but it also means one player keeps taking long shots

Its difficult to say. There are ones that are easier to get a feel for because they are part of events that happen more often. Like corners & free kicks and their defensive equivalents (aerial defender and defensive wall being 2) - that might in itself be enough reason to get them.

I get a lot of goals from corners and free-kicks and those taking them have the SAs but they are also my best players. But a lot of goals come from dead balls anyway.

So I want Aerial Defender and Wall. If I got a winger or 2 with Shadow Striker I'd be pleased too.

SAs confuse me but I'd rather have them than not.

My TOP 4 Specialist to have

1- Aerial Defender
2- Corner Specialist
3- Defensive Wall
4- Free-Kick Specialist

I play Narrow Diamond/attacking/counter most days, this list should vary somewhat for each different team according to formation and tactic, I would love to put "Shadow Striker" too but AMCs are not everyones cup of tea. And my experience using "Dribblers" and "Playmakers" has been nightmarish as they tend for me to just be Yellow card MAGNETS!

And just another thought on SAs before I forget to mention it (again).

We usually think of SAs as a bonus (if any). There could be a trade off - IF we say that a Playmaker gets a bonus to things like passing then its possible he also gets a penalty. So, if we think that might be possible, we might want to take a balanced view/guess on what are the bonuses and penalties and see whats more important. Maybe a FK specialist can't head it....but if its an MC who cares; or a Playmaker can't tackle without fouling - that might be more of an issue.

But who knows - I just make things up as I go along - if it works, great, if it doesn't, I make up something else and stumble along. >.<

Weird thing about playmakers: I see a lot of you complain about your MCs with playmaker SA getting cards and playing poorly. The thing is, I have 2 playmakers 3* MR and 4* ML and each of them has got like 1-2 yellows during entire last season even though they were close to most caps in the squad (I have no replacement for them). And the 3* MR also scored 13 goals! :cool:

My top 4 special abilities are Free kick and Corner specialist,Shadow Striker and One On One scorer...

Well done on the win! As an aside, which formation did you use in the end?


I've not had much luck with free kick specialists (aside from the very 1st one I had), but I've had some good corner takers. I'm also a fan of 1on1 shot stopper for GKs, and 1on1 scorer for strikers

In the first half I used the formation you told me to. Morelli guarding his AMC, you know... and my defender handballed in the box. He missed a penalty, but scored a bit later (corner kick specialist assisted the striker). Luckily I equalized in 44th minute (corner kick specialist assisted the midfielder). Then I decided I would go back to my realiable 4-2-1-3 formation. I took off my handballer for another striker. I dominated him. And I scored somewhere between 60-70 (corner kick specialist assisted the defender for his first goal of the season :D ). Had to play one defender out of the position as my only right back got injured. My corner kick specialist missed 1 on 1 to seal the win and that is when I started to sweat. Luckily he couldn't get through me...

On a SCALE of 0 to 5...

One one One Scorer : 1...

Corner Specialist : 2...

Free Kicks : 2...

Shadow Striker : 3...The percentage of conversion of shots into GOALS increases...

Ariel Defender : 2...

Penalty Kick : 0...

Dribbler : 0...

Playmaker : 1...

Defensive Wall : 5...

Have given One on One Scorer and Playmaker 1 because I had to give Dribbler and Penalty Kick a 0...Otherwise One on One Scorer and Playmaker would have also got 0...
