Basic steps like playing a right footed player on right side and vice versa...If this does not clicks then playing them on their opposite side foot...

If they can play 2 positions then try them on both positions...

And the most important is that if you persist with a player and do not sub him or change his positions every now and then the player eventually starts performing......

So I think patience is the key......
