Why am I not able to get rid of the reserves that are put in to make the team up when you are short of players

I have just signed 5 players but it says I cannot sign them as my squad is full. I let 2 of my actual players go by sacking them but it still says my squad is full and I cannot sign them (

The replacements are old and retiring -- you have to sack them to remove them. This costs $$ to pay them to leave. To avoid this in the future sign enough players to have a minimum squad on Day 1.

"Actual" players should be sold, especially in new season, rather than sacking them.

You are missing something...It is not possible that after sacking 2 players you are not able to sign 2 players...
