That troublesome MC position

I am into my 9th season and the one position that has consistently led to poor form (averaging 5 & 6 with quite a few 4s thrown in) is the MC. At first I attributed it to the players so I bought and sold a number of midfielders, with pretty bad results. Then I decided that they need game experience so I stuck with a pretty good player, who has over a 100 starts currently. That didn't really work either.

So I tackled it next by investing in two expensive high potential young MCs. Both of them have some of the highest $ value on my team and have two red stars. The results was continued bad form. I started by emphasizing the Attack skills So I decided to power train their physical attributes. No improvement. Then decided to power train their defense. No results.

How do YOU get avg form of 7 in your MCs?

Increase morale, try to change formation. It could work. I don't know what exactly determs form

I think that MC-s are playing everywhere (attack, defense). My team MC-s skills are 54-55-55 . They are not scoring like mad strikers (max 0,5 goals per game) and doing great job by blocking opponent's shots. And I never use arrows with them.

what orders do you use for your team?

tactic order can play big role, moral is key too

MCs wont get good ratings if you are playing down flanks or if you set passing to long balls...

MC's are the most likely to flop. So the only way to get a good one is to look to his prev stats in the transfer market.This season I've got 3 MC's,one of them is my top scorer :p

I generally set my offense to attacking, always short passing, don't use arrows for any of the midfielders and use a variety of mostly balanced formations, changing them according to the opponent.

it helps to use them as your free kick or corner taker

Same for me too i have never had a good performing MC. I also took a Young Nordgen... who was MC i trained him to play MR and AMC. He will play well at MR and AMC 7/8 but if play MC back to 5/4. I have tried most tactics and formations to suit MC but still never perform not matter tactic,formation,morale,win bonus it just doesn't matter its a dead role!

I even put a different MC who had form of 4/5 etc in the AMC position even tho he is ONLY MC. he scored 2 and 7 rating in last game lol

so my solution...dont play with MC or just 1 minimum depending on players you have.

i believe everyteam will have a always negative postion in there team

I have 2 clubs on same level, both use same formation (4141) and identical tactic, both have superb morale, only different servers. In these clubs there are mc in great and in bad form, they have 5*, so I think that is individual and something else determines that.

I suffered from this problem for several seasons. CM tend to bit a lot more miss than hit in general. My current team has a crop of four young-ish CM (plus one auto generated one season oldie as back up) who are pretty reliable now. The way I managed to achieve this was by purging my entire MF one season and then signing four/five young CM. I kept the ones who were good, and packed off the duds pretty quickly and replaced them with other CM. This season one of them is showing seasons of being useless, while another one who I was intending to get rid of has come good again.

In short, go for maybe overloading on CMs then be ruthless and get rid of the ones who are no good, keeping the cream of the crop.

Pure MC's are finicky beasts, besides GK they are hardest to get the best ratings. I play formations that use one or two MC's at the most, and I have only one pure MC on BvB, the rest have other roles so cannot be compared. But I like my one.. he replaced another great MC I had, Ty Keough, who I sold to another of my teams because good MC's too hard to find. :D

No big secret to MCs. Ratings for MCs imo are principally down to whether they are involved in the match (unless they're complete duds).

So if you want better ratings then its up to you to get them involved.

The following MC is not fantastic but does his job. I trained CK SA on him - that gives him something to do in every match. In a midfield focussed formation I try to Short Pass when possible, then good MCs will shine and its a good way of identifying duds. If I'm counterattacking then this guy needs to work so he has decent if not great defensive qualities. If I'm going down the flanks with 1 ST and mixed passing then he gets a red arrow to support and pick up loose balls (in my mind), but if I'm using 2 strikers I accept that the the play will probably pass him by and don't worry about ratings.

The only problem I have with MCs is mine get too involved XD and mine attract lots of cards - so I need to a have a few to rotate.

I don't expect my MCs to be star performers (and they're not) but they need to do the job I want them to do (and mostly they do) - I leave the big numbers and MoMs to those glory hunting wingers/AMs. ;)

The alternative ofc is to make them Scottish, if they don't play well then at least you know they'll break some legs. :D

I had MC once, who never got rating bellow 7... 31 years old, 3-star free agent, scored 16 goals in 24 games, but I replaced him next season with 5-star MC who played well in his first season and first half of the next season, but suddenly he started playing for 5 and 6 since then...

Very interesting post , Buffs. I will try and think about the position that way.

Only buy 50T scouts, Hot prospects or Norgens, or token acadamy players, nothing else is good enough!, when buying look for what feet they kick with and place them in the coresponding positions, how ofton do you change formation?, decide on one main formation then build your team around that!, buy multi positional players so if needed you can change formation during live matches but only slightly! e.g if your playing 4-4-2 then take of a MC, move the other into the very middle and put on another ST to go 4-3w-3!, play red arrows on your midfield to give you more attacking options, if you have a really good midfield be aware that not EVERY player will perform 7-8-9s every match, as you have said that your players are getting constant 4s and 5s then it will most definatly be down to my very first point the type of player you are buying.
