Does the Auto-Sub feature work?

I have watched dozens of games this past week or so... vast majority of
them with no managers present.... I have yet to see a player be stretchered
off the pitch and be replace by the engine....

I'm sure that not EVERY manager forgot to set auto-subs.... but I have
never seen it work... which makes me concerned for my matches I can't
watch....

So? Does it work?

I have had opponents make substitutions for injured players, when manager wasn't present. And I also had one of my players substituted when injured when I was unable to attend a match, last season.

Yes it works, I had a player that was brought on for one of my injured players in a cup match yesterday that I didn't watch.

It only works for injuries.

same as you, I think it only works when a player is injured.

Right... I get that it's for injuries... I have just seen teams lose 2 men to injury even...
and no replacements.... guess they were all just clueless....

I always have players in the auto subs, just in case I can't attend the game for some reason. I leave them there, in case I forget to set them. But then again, I manage to get to about 99% of matches.
