Those symptoms usually mean clock not synched.
Did you place an opening bid a while before it went into knockout round ? If you keep the game window open and do nothing for a period of time , you have to refresh the game for the sync time to adjust.
refresh page immediately after initial round end. if you have fast internet, you should be able to put 2nd bid on time
