Striker Missing Chances And Not Scoring Enough Goals

I have a striker who missed a lot chances (according to comments) and he has not scored enough goals so far. He failed to score important goals so far; most of his goals were against abandoned teams or from the penalty spot. As you can see from his profile shown below, he should have scored more goals, especially in important matches, given his quality.
What you recommend to do with him; sell him at the end of the season or give him another season?

When I bought him (as a nordgen), his overall quality was 27. He was expensive and also cost me about 10 tokens.
He is a fast trainer.

With scores like that I don't see a reason to replace him right now. He has an average of 8. Sometimes it is not all about the scoring. For next season you might be able to get a striker with 39 quality. This striker will not get that quality soon so that would be an improvement. Unless you have a lot of greenpacks to spare I would sell him and use the money to get one or two new good strikers. I would love to buy him next season from you for my new team though :) I am only level 1 with that one right now though.

But a striker with an average of 0,65 goals per match and 0,5 assists is a good player if you ask me.

your expectations seem high. I see nothing wrong with your striker's production.

You have not considered all what I have said; many of his goals were from the penalty spot or against abandoned teams. How about all the missed chances shown in the comments?
Also, take into consideration that he has played mostly against 3 star defenders. I expected a lot more from a player of that quality if he played against much weaker opponents.

Anyway, I know wht u mean and I knw the feeling. if like u said he only scores against "lesser" teams and goes missing during "crunch" matches i.e. against title contenders then personally for me, he is good but not good enough. I would keep him as a secondary striker and search for a better one who is capable of scoring against all types of opponents and play them as a pair. He is still useful.

A ST with Q39, if available, will be only from the scout's list. On the transfer market, maximum will be Q34 next season.

The only good thing so far about this player in terms of performance on the pitch is that he never got a rating below 7 in competitive matches.

Yes, but that is a lot of money for a player on the bench. He is the most expensive (highest market value) player in my team this season.

Your expectations are high to be honest. There is no golden rule to get a striker that will Always score. A level 31 striker will outplay most defenders at your level. But there are a lot of variables to take into consideration.
1) What teams are you facing? Stronger then you or all weak teams? If the teams are stronger then your striker will score less. If he is only facing weak teams then his scoring is low.
2) What kind of tactic are you playing? Is he a lone striker or does he get supported by wingers and attacking mid fields?
3) How is the rest of team playing? If other players are scoring like mad then your striker could be one of the reasons. In normal football a good striker is not only a player who makes decisive goals but also a player that can distract 1-3 defenders. That way he opens up opportunities for other players.
4) Is there a second striker next to him? How does he play? Is this player playing on the left because of his left footing? If not try to switch him out.

As you can see, a lot of variables. If you compare him to my best strikers. First strike has one on one SA. He has 25 matches, 25 goals and 5 assists. Average score of 7,8. Second striker has 12 goals and 12 assists. Average score of 7,5. I am satisfied with both. My mid field is also scoring like crazy. Number 1 in the league.

1. Weaker teams.
2. Depends on the formations used, but always supported (wingers or AMC or another ST).
3. Much lower value and slow training striker (from last season) scoring more goals than him; also, he seems to have more presence on the pitch.
4. Supported by another ST or not, he does not seem to perform well in terms of scoring goals from open play, especially in important matches.

What is even more annoying is the missed chances, especially in important matches. This is one of the main reasons why I'm considering to sell him.

The only reasons why I have kept him is because of his fast training ability and his attributes profile. But, I'm again considering selling him at the end of the season as performance on the pitch is what matters most. I have to ask others (as a precaution) as they may have come across such a player before where the player is like this the first season and changes after a season, where he turns out to be one of the best players.

Or may be Nordeus wants me to train him for a one-on-one special ability, so that he stops missing chances. :p
But, that will cost at least 50 tokens (to buy the green packs). It is better to buy other players next season with those tokens. So, should he be sold at the end of this season for funding purchases next season, or will he become a better player next season?

It is all a matter of personal taste. If you are not satisfied him then sell him and use the money to get a good replacement. There are some hidden factors in the game that nobody knows. Factors as why does somebody perform well or bad, why does one score or not, etc.... It seems you have researched this player enough.

OK, now that I knw he has loads of assists on top of goals scored against whipping boys, I believe you should keep him. When I said make him a secondary striker, I don't mean for you to bench him. What I mean is that you should pair him with another striker who will feed off his assists.

We both are probably eying the same sort of striker - a 20 goal striker who can win us a crunch match.

I am lucky I have Enrico Chiesa for Go Leo who scores when he wants to and Jurgen Voller for Los Galaxy who does exactly that and provides assists as well. His partner in Los Galaxy, Mario Klose, scores against whipping boys and provides assists for Voller. I gotten Klose first but when I saw that he didnt score enough, I stumbled upon Voller and it was a match made in T11. His league stats as of yesterday.

You do need to take a big picture view. Are your Wingers, AMCs, MCs etc scoring too? Goals and Assists are the same thing for your team but ofc goals are the headline stats for a Striker.

But I understand your problem. Without decent Management-focussed stats for players such as goal attempts/on target etc for strikers (and others for different roles) its hard to judge true 'success'.

If its not enough for you sell him but he's not that bad and its not been that many games so wait and decide later. (Just a few too many 7s but I'm having similar problems.)

My wingers and midfielders have performed satisfactorily in terms of goals and assists.

This striker does not even appear on the top goal-scoring chart for the league (so far), while other teams have their strikers (despite being of lower quality) on the chart.

By the way, I have a problem with my goalkeepers too. They did not keep enough clean sheets; they conceded goals against much weaker teams and obtained ratings of 6. Sometimes, based on the comments, they don't even make one save, as if the goalkeeper was not between the posts. One goalkeeper was bought in previous season from the transfer market and he was the first choice goalkeeper until I bought a goalkeeper from the scout list this season.

My position is different but similar.

My Striker (often lone striker) is not on the charts but both Wingers are top. However my Striker is Top on Assists by a long way. And Top performer but closely followed by wingers.

But still I have the same feeling. Is he getting chances and missing, or passing or both? My Striker averages a goal a game (nearly 2 assists) but my team 6 - is it enough? Well, its not this season, but it was last season and the one before so I'll just wait.

Last Season the top scorer in my league was 4th placed team. Sometimes if the goals are spread your faced with the question is my Striker contributing to that in a positive way or are they spread because he's failing.

Difficult decision.

Based on the comments, I have noticed mine missing a lot of chances; he missed more than those he took. This is what annoys me, especially when he misses 2 or more chances in important matches and does not score any goal.

Once he got two consecutive 7 bench him for two days and he will be alright:cool:

MY 7* GK dropped me out directly from cup... he passed a ball to the enemy striker (!!!! HAVE YOU SEEN this BS move before guys?) instead a long kick forward. Not to mention my also 7* 1v1 ST was unable to score ONE freaking goal against much lesserQ defs/gk combo... bad form... aham...

This is what happened to me in the cup too. Based on the comments, my previous first choice GK had the ball and seemed to passed the ball to the closest opposing player who then scored. This was in the last minutes of the match. This is what made him lost his place. He was replaced as first choice GK, and later he was sold.

But, I think there is something fishy in all this. My newly bought scout GK apparently made almost the same mistake in the second leg of the same round of the cup. He made a save, and apparently there was a player near him who then scored from the save.

According to the comments, for both of the above cases, the time gap between the two events (GK has the ball and goal scored) was less than 1 second.

This is what indicated to me that the results of some matches have already been decided before the matches were actually played.

I only will tell you one thing, and is that a player that is well porogrammed in internal % of effectiveness, don't need more cones in attack skills, need anticipation, if youy wantt more % of ratio-scoring train the phisicall attributes, add all cones till 9* of level or all cones till the end of the season, and keep this thread alive duing this season.... because I always talk about that but we don't have proofs about that LOL

Lets see if the numbers are increased by adding cones in phisicall because as I said, the % of effectiveness if good, just you need increase anticipation and that requires speed.

You may be right about the 'hidden' percentage effectiveness. When I bought him he was Q27; Upgrading him to Q31 has not made any significant improvement on his performances. He still missed chances and still failed to score important goals.

Train speed and tell me LOL really is the only that you can do, my idea is that a player reach the 95% of effectiveness betwen the 5-6*, then if you want your player going over in 1 to 1 or so, the speed is the key, and the speed is not like the internal % of effectiveness that reaches the max between 5-6*, with 9* speed you r player surpass the others and is a point above in the situations.

Probe and share and we can see lol

No. I can't afford to train a player to 9 stars. I have already spent enough money on this game. After all what I have seen, I have already decided not to spend more money on this game. If ever I will buy tokens, it will be only a small amount just for bidding or maybe for buying another scout player if required. Also, I won't waste tokens for training a player that has been unsatisfactory to me.

Ok, I did not explain well what I wanna say lol I am not saiyng waste money, as I don't know your budget/reserves or philosophy to play, just my option is add cones to these atributes during the rest of the season, because are the only skills that can make the differance looking the player.

Ok, I will add the gained skill points to the physical and mental attributes, and I will update on how the player performed.

He has played 11 matches and has scored 4 goals and 2 assists. My other striker has also played 11 matches but has 12 goals and 7 assists. My AMC has 8 matches and 5 goals. Even a MC has 9 games and 5 goals.

I will try Khris tactic by increasing physical and mental attributes but if he doesn't improve much he will be the first one I sell in the next season. He is the most expensive player on my team with 2,3 million. I can at least buy 3 decent to good 29 quality players next season.

What is his age?
Was he bought as a nordgen?

Having a player of high market value that brings little in terms of pitch performance relative to other players despite having better overall quality is annoying. This money can be used for funding transfers next season.

Selling him at the end of the season would be profitable in terms of money; the only thing that I fear is that he may turn out to be among the best players next season. There should be a reason why he is a fast trainer and has a very high market value. His market value also increases rapidly when his attributes are updated with skill points. This is why I'm asking what other users think about this.

His age is 18. But I don't know if he was bought as a nordgen to be honest. I was blinded by his price, youth and SA :)

He is probably a nordgen. I bought an 18 year old nordgen with S.A too - a DR who trains decently. But his ratings has been 6s and 7s so far.

There is still a risk if they are sold at the end of the season as like I have said what if they start to perform as they should as from the second season (that is, as from 19 years of age), then it would be a loss.

It would also be a loss if they are not sold at the end of this season because of the significant drop in M.V when you move into the next level next season.

My main striker this year improve a lot when I changed his partner in attack, first he was good in assistance, but scored few goals, now he has decent (really good!) numbers.

Before the change: 6 matches / 1 goal / 4 assistances / 0 MOM
Later the change: 12 matches / 11 goals / 4 assistances / 3 MOM

I bid a tall striker (195, 92 kg) and maybe he fight with the defenders meanwhile the main striker scored :rolleyes:

Think in this before to sell this player.

Normally he's good assistant but thus season I need his goals and I proved to put a tall and strong striker close (not too close LOL...) and this works.
He always participes in the game, in pass or scored, I'll pay attention and notify you ;)

I'm on holidays :) Then I can't play.
But I observed the striker like I promise.
He shoots out of goal 1/2 times in every match, but less.
Now I'm testing in free kicks and assits very good too :)

Reviving this older post. My striker from first season who missed an enormous amount of chances is right now the star in the second season. He is the topscorer in the league and is third on the ratings with a solid 8. In the first season he only scored 6-7's mostly. Right now his numbers are:

League: 9 games, 8 goals, 1 assist, 1MoM
Champions league: 5 games, 9 goals, 5 assists, 2 MoM
Cup: 2 games, 1 assist (of course against a higher level player with some very unfortunate results)

Overall this striker has 1 goal and 0,5 assist per match which makes him a very good striker. At the end of the first season I was so prepared to sell him :)

I think ur player is good enough. It sometimes depends on your tactics.
But look at his ratings......Quite good enough. He is doing his job. But maybe ur other players aren't helping him.

I bought two strikers at 4-5am one morning earlier this season, starting details below:

Petrovski started scoring immediately, until he got injured (currently 4 games 3 goals 1 assist), but Cashman took 4-5 games to get into the groove and is now banging them in regularly (currently 14 games 6 goals 1 assist)...

I think an average of a goal every 1-2 games is not stellar, but as long as he's contributing to the game and others are scoring too then I'm happy with it. One of the duties of a striker is to get in amongst the defence and stir them up a bit. If they're concentrating on the one that should be scoring then others have got a chance to sneak in and put the ball in the net...
