    Tips on special abilities

    Hi all,

I just started playing Top Eleven and logically looking to strengthen my squad a bit. In this other football management game I'm playing (Hattrick), specialities are quite important. Could someone advise me a bit on specialities in Top Eleven? E.g. which ones are considered good, do they add a lot to the quality of your players/strategy, should it be considered training them etc.?

    Cheers,

    Menno

Well, first off, you'll probably find that the opinions on this vary greatly because nobody really knows (other than the developers, of course).

However, I tend to believe that special abilities (SA for short) do have an effect, if only a marginal one, but those margins could easily make for a goal more scored/less conceded, thus statistically improving your stance.

I'd say the useful ones are free-kick and corner specialist (statistically improving your chance of scoring from free kicks and corners), defensive wall and aerial defender (statistically improving your chances of clearing the ball instead of conceding).

After that, it becomes a little philosophical:
Does a goalie become more valuable as a penalty killer? I doubt it since there simply aren't enough opportunities to make that ability count. If anything, a goalie might benefit from being a one-on-one stopper since this scenario pops up virtually every match.

Analog for strikers/attackers: One-on-one scorer rather than penalty specialist.

The rest of the SAs has nearly no appeal to me personally, but you'll probably find other opinions about that around here.

    Good luck

Thanks, very informative . I kind of was happy with my dribbler and playmaker (it sounded good), but not sure how much they really do now anymore ;-). Any idea in which way defensive wall helps?

    Thanks!

One more question, not really fitting this thread but I couldn't find it: most players seem more or less equally skilled in defensive, attacking, and physical/mental skills. I get that some skills come in handy for all field players (e.g. heading, strength), whereas others aren't. Why should I for example assign skill points to my goalkeeper's attacking skills? To me it makes no sense, and yet there's so many more or less equally skilled players out there.

Well, you ask 10 different people and you get 10 different answers on this one here, man.

You're right, they all come with balanced skills, and then there is the game that allows a difference of 20 max between your highest and lowest skill set.

I don't care what everybody else does (until someone can tell me exactly what impact skill sets have on a player's performance), but I give my attackers +20 attack compared to the other 2, goalies the other way (+20 defense), defenders +10 phys/ment and +20 defense, AMs get +10 phys/ment and +15 attack, midfielders pretty balanced, but that's just me...
