Best Special Ability for DC/DR/DMC

I'm in the process of power-training my 18 yr old, DC/DR/DMC. He's both footed and 194 cm tall! My plan is for him to play DMC, whenever I use a tactic that requires a DMC.

What i'm struggling with is, what role to give him? I understand several may chime in with, SA's are a waste when it comes to power-training. I understand that logic and do agree that there is a merit to it. However, I have access to very good farming, and have 2370 rests saved up, with a team that will reach 7* before the end of the season w/o power-training, so not cause for concern regarding rests. I also want to give the player an SA, because I believe they play a bigger role in FA matches, than the other competitions, due to quality based draws.

Now for the SA's which would you recommend power-training? Aerial Defender, Defensive Wall or Playmaker?

I would go with aerial defender or defensive wall, choosing the one my team is totally missing.

If you have already players with such SAs or no players with such SA, I would go firstly with aerial defender.
Why?
1. I just think that corners are more than free kicks statistically..
2. Aerial defender is hardier to find in the market than defensive wall..

for a Dr,Dl I'll go with corner specialist,I have and old 31 yo DR with corner specialist ability he made 14 assists in 11 games.

For a Dc I know aerial defender supposed to defend well in corners and score for you in corner but that barely happen like 10 % of the cases,in the other hand a DC with defensive wall is the best you can get two of them as DCs will protect well your goal from most of free-kicks and long shots .

about dmc I'm not a big fan,I use blue arrow in my mc just un case when my opponent play with amc if your team is strong it will work just fine especially I'm playing defensively most of the times .

A few thoughts in addition to it.

The more defensive walls you have, the harder you will be to score on FKs. If you have 2-3 of them, you can use hard tackling against good opponents without risking too much to be killed on FKs. But I still probably wouldn't recommend it, since the risk of a red card is just too high. I only switch to hard if I am loosing a game.

I don't think defensive walls work for long shots, only for FKs.
I have never seen the SA sign blinking with a blocked long shot, when this is done by a defender who owns this SA.

On the contrary I get it many times when FKs are blocked

There were some old posts in the forum, saying that def.wall helped also vs the long shots of opponents but after the live game started and we could see the sign of s.a., it seems that it's working only vs free kicks.
Maybe Jeeves or Moi could confirm that.

I decided to add "Aerial Defender" to my player, as Cloverfield suggested. I have a need for both AD and DW, since my young Dutch defender is the only one under 22 years old on the roster. Being that the player is 194 cm tall, i'm guessing being tall is useful for heading as well :)

EDIT: The new DC/DR/DMC is showing promise as he also scored a goal in associations, as we advanced to the Finals (16-16; GD 21-20) over an association currently in the World Top 100.

There is dev blog post, maybe old, but said at that time certain SA, dribbling and PM I think, didn't have animations showing. It was a post with Nordeus assuring that SA did have a real impact in game play. Point being, at some time, SA could have an effect without being visible when watching live animation.

yes, those sa are specific : dribbler, penalty specialist, 1-1 and p.m. (this is questionable if affects in a passive way too).
During live, when a s.a. is activate, we see the sign.
Def. wall is activate only vs F-K and "header" vs corners.
If we have a DC with "header" who's scoring more often from C-K, it's not because of the s.a. but from his "talent"/internal programming.

Since he is a DR, his crossing will be good. Train playmaker in my opinion. But that depends if you wanted to play him as DM only.

Well, Special Abilities have never been changed in their functioning during the years. I personally have never seen the Defensive Wall SA activate during a long shot and boy do I have an AML who constantly scores via some incredible cannon shots from half the field... never had an opponent who's player, having Defensive Wall and being across the path of the shot, stop the ball with the SA Icon popping up above him.

Defensive wall is only shown on freekicks blocking the shot, and arial ability is only shown on defending corners. I am still not convinced that SA's is more than a visual effect. :rolleyes:

for "Aerial" and "D.wall" I 'm convinced. they are really doing great job vs corner and free-kicks.
For corner specialist, what can I say ...
I see the sa sign of my player during the C-kick, but he 's sending the ball in an area where are only 3 oppo defenders :p
