Desert Rats FC played away and saw off another of their rivals for the League Championship this evening, but bore a heavy price in doing so. The referee saw fit to issue a few yellow cards in the match, four in the first-half, three to the Rats, and a second to the opposition after the break. Striker Julien Renard as a result of the yellow card received, will be missing from the next League match, and right-winger Emerson de Alencar Arraes didn't finish the match due to injury, and will be out for 5 days.
Renard opened the scoring in the 11th minute, weaving through the defence and going round the 'keeper, and then three minutes later, undid all his work with a tackle that resulted in the equaliser from a free-kick. He did make some amends by feeding Gary Cusack a pass that enabled the left-winger to put the visitors back in front just after the half-hour. Goalkeeper Kevin McKibben then put in a 'keeping master class, making five decisive saves as the home side tried in vain for another equaliser. 5 minutes from time, Renard made another contribution, his corner finding Patrick Tillmans on the far side of the goal and his finish sealed the 3-1 win for Desert Rats.
Two wins over their closest rivals in the past two days have given Desert Rats a big lead at the top of the League table.
