Yes it is
I bought one recently. First time ever. Power-trained him from 4* to 7* and added free-kick SA. He's consistently getting 8 so far and seems well involved in most games. I only paid 6 tokens for him. So I'd say yes, give it a go.

No. You can find better players in the TM if you wait.
You paid 6 tokens plus the greens in terms of resources.
I usually buy 90% 5star players, from TM with 1T.
So if you compare it, much more cheaper than the academy one.
So on the overall there are many factors if someone should indeed buy academy player
1. Academy player is fast trainer. Do you find fast trajners in your TM?
2. If tou find fast trainers, how much you pay for them , are there bid wars for them or you steal him for 1T
3. Are you aware of how to find fast trainers?
4. How many greens have you stacked up, do you afford to train a 4star player?
5. What team do you keep 5star team? 6? 7? It is different to train a 4star player to 6 than to 7 stars.
After the first week of the season, you can usually snipe up fast trainers in the 90-95% range for 1-2 tokens if you are patient and know what you are looking for. I got a fast training 18yr old keeper with PK ability 92% for 1 coin just recently. Toss him a couple greens a day and he'll be ready to play in a couple seasons.
1. Occasionally, yes although rarely.
2. I can't be bothered with bid wars. I usually snap up for 1T. Money is no object as I have 14bn in the bank. No, I'm not a token buyer either. I farm packs.
3. Absolutely! I've been doing so for nearly 4 years in this game.
4. I have 4K Greens. So yes, I can afford it. But this was a one-off.
5. My team is mainly 6* with a few 5*. I never train or buy a 4* player. I usually buy through negotiations or the odd 1T 5* Nordgen if I see them in the TM. In this one instance, I decided to buy an Academy player for the first (and only) time. I then re-named him as the son of my greatest ever player (who retired at the end of last season), and I power trained him to 7*. He just turned in another 10 rating this evening and if he continues to do that for the next 14 seasons, it will be a good investment. However, as I mentioned, doing this was a one-off as generally I wouldn't be bothered.
4Κ greens???
Well in such situation if your academy player is a player of a position you want, then yes it is agood bargain, as he is for sure a fast trainer and most times a good performer
I bought a few 18yo 5* star players which are actually good and fast training. But they are not very common.
