Future game mystery ?

Yesterday with my reserves I had a Cup game (I 'm staying level, play only for the Cup - if I remember - lol)
Wasn't watching but later I saw that common message that we didn't play and I won0-3 on paper.
Ok I said, good.
Today, checking the schedule for tomorrow, I saw the same message again that oppo doesn't have 11 eligible players.
But how can it be ?
He could start be active again and buy some extra players (if he has injuries).

But how the game mechanics predicted that he wouldn't be active and buy 3-4 players to replace them ?
Anyway, indeed the 2nd leg never played and I past with another 3-0 on papers.
