It's a no-brainer to figure out they are not on the same server when they can't watch each others's matches.

Its pretty easy to notice when a friend is on different server. I can't see his fixtures or negotiate a player with him, i can only send him gifts and vice-versa. So i know he is on a different server than me.

You don't know what server you are on. You can know if you're on the same one as a friend and you can probably guess if it's an older or newer one by the TM, but it's not like they're named or numbered (or at least, not that the players can see)
